Stelle dich doch kurz vor

Mein Name ist Vero Faye Kitsune, auch bekannt als CZARINA (auf allen Plattformen formell als C Z A R I N A bezeichnet). Ich bin eine Dark-Electro- und Synthie-Künstlerin und Produzentin, die ursprünglich aus New York stammt und jetzt in Galicien, Spanien, lebt. Ich produziere verschiedene Genres – von Darkwave, Industrial, Prog Rock, Barock und Chamber Pop, Goth, Post-Punk und Synthpop. Ich bin auch Filmemacher, Designer und professioneller Markenarchitekt für Modelabels.

Wann und wie bist du zur Musik gekommen?

Ich mache Musik, seit ich ein Kind bin. In meiner Jugend habe ich eine Ausbildung am Broadway absolviert, und als Teenager habe ich mich mit der Produktion und Aufführung von Rockmusik beschäftigt. Ich habe mehrere Jahre lang in einer Prog-Metal-Band gespielt. Aber dann musste ich die Musik für eine Weile auf Eis legen, um mich auf meine Karriere als Designer zu konzentrieren. Aber vor 3 Jahren beschloss ich, meine Musikkarriere wieder aufleben zu lassen und startete das Projekt C Z A R I N A.

Wie entsteht ein Song? Erst die Melodie, dann der Text?

Ich beginne zuerst mit den Grundakkorden und der Melodie. Ich spiele sie auf dem Klavier oder der Gitarre, während ich singe. Dann schreibe ich den Text. Die Komposition und Produktion lege ich auf meiner Digital Audio Workstation fest (ich benutze Logic Pro). Ich schreibe alle Instrumentalstücke und erstelle das Sounddesign. Und dann nehme ich den Gesang auf, bevor ich mische und mastere.

Fünf Fakten über dich

1) Ich habe eine französische Bulldogge namens Hamlet, die ich versuche, so oft wie möglich in meinen Musikvideos zu zeigen.
2) Ich habe eine Ausbildung in Budo Martial Arts – Kenjutsu und der Kunst des Schwertkampfes. Mein Mann, DeadlyKawaii, ist mein Sensei.
3) Ich wurde der Welt zuerst als Mode- und Schuhdesignerin unter dem Label Ivy Kirzhner New York vorgestellt, bevor jemand wusste, dass ich Musikerin bin. Ich habe mich fast 2 Jahrzehnte lang auf Design konzentriert, bis ich mich schließlich entschied, wieder als Musiker zu arbeiten.
4) Vor kurzem habe ich mit dem Filmemachen angefangen. Ich behandle meine Musikvideos eher wie Filme. Ich liebe es, Geschichten zu erzählen. Ich freue mich darauf, mehr zu machen.
5) Meine Ziele sind nicht so hoch gesteckt, wie die meisten vermuten würden. Ich liebe es, Musik und Kunst zu machen. Ich liebe meine Familie. Ich liebe ein gutes Essen. Ich liebe Tiere, das Meer und die Natur. Mein Haus liegt direkt am Meer. Die Zeit, die ich mit all diesen Dingen verbringen kann, ist mehr als genug und ein großer Gewinn für mich. Dass meine Arbeit von den richtigen Leuten gehört und gesehen wird, ist ebenfalls ein großer Gewinn für mich. Für all das fühle ich mich wirklich gesegnet.

Introduce yourself briefly

My name is Vero Faye Kitsune, also known as CZARINA (formally referred to as C Z A R I N A on all platforms). I’m a dark electro and synth artist and producer originally from New York and now living in Galicia, Spain. I produce different genres – from darkwave, industrial, prog rock, baroque and chamber pop, goth, post-punk and synthpop. I am also a filmmaker, designer and professional brand architect for fashion labels.

When and how did you get into music?

I’ve been making music since I was a kid. In my youth I trained on Broadway, and as a teenager I got involved in producing and performing rock music. I played in a prog metal band for several years. But then I had to put music on hold for a while to focus on my career as a designer. But 3 years ago I decided to revive my music career and started the C Z A R I N A project.

How is a song created? First the melody, then the lyrics?

I start with the basic chords and melody first. I play them on the piano or guitar while I sing. Then I write the lyrics. I lay down the composition and production on my digital audio workstation (I use Logic Pro). I write all the instrumentals and create the sound design. And then I record the vocals before mixing and mastering.

Five facts about you

1) I have a French bulldog named Hamlet, who I try to feature as often as possible in my music videos.
2) I have training in Budo Martial Arts – Kenjutsu and the art of sword fighting. My husband, DeadlyKawaii, is my sensei.
3) I was first introduced to the world as a fashion and shoe designer under the label Ivy Kirzhner New York before anyone knew I was a musician. I focused on design for almost 2 decades until I finally decided to go back to being a musician.
4) I recently started making films. I treat my music videos more like movies. I love to tell stories. I’m looking forward to making more.
5) My goals are not as lofty as most would assume. I love making music and art. I love my family. I love a good meal. I love animals, the ocean and nature. My house is right on the ocean. The time I can spend doing all these things is more than enough and a great benefit for me. The fact that my work is heard and seen by the right people is also a great benefit for me. For all of this, I feel truly blessed.
