Ich bin Tobi, der C.F.O. vom DEATH VALLEY FIGHT CLUB, einem Dark Electro Projekt.
C.F.O. bedeutet in diesem Fall Chief Fighting Officer. Wie man raus hört, bin ich der Boss. Das liegt daran, dass ich das einzige permanente Projektmitglied bin 😉
Das „FIGHT CLUB“ im Namen steht für die Kämpfe, die jeder Mensch im Leben führt.
Die einen mehr, die anderen weniger. Aber jeder hat seine Kämpfe auszutragen. Manchmal gewinnen wir, manchmal verlieren wir.
Das „DEATH VALLEY“ bezieht sich weniger auf den Ort als auf das eigene, innere tote Tal, in dem sich jeder mal befindet. Somit sind meine Songs in Summe hart, so wie das Leben auch sein kann: dunkel, melancholisch & skeptisch gegenüber der Menschheit aber auch kämpferisch, kraftvoll und klangvoll.
Ich lebe in Stuttgart und habe dort in meiner Wohnung auch mein Musikstudio. Vom Komponieren über Lyrics bis zur Grafik mache ich alles selbst.

Wann und wie bist du zur Musik gekommen?

Dass muss am Tag meiner Geburt gewesen sein. Ich soll schon damals besonders tief und düster
geschrien haben. Spaß bei Seite: ich bin eher ein Quereinsteiger. Als Jugendlicher habe ich mit den „Magix Music Maker“ auf meinem 386er PC angefangen, erste Musikschnipsel gemacht. Ich war etwas von der Musik abstinent, aber nie wirklich weg. Ich habe keine klassische Musikausbildung oder ähnliches, sondern bin eher Soundtüftler und hab schon alles ausprobiert. Diesen Winter habe ich mir vorgenommen, mal ordentlich Schlagzeug spielen zu lernen🐀

Lebst du / ihr von der Musik hauptberuflich? Wenn Nein, welchen Beruf übst du aus?

Hauptberuflich bin ich Ingenieur in der Automobilindustrie. Daher kommt auch mein Hang zum Tüfteln. Zum künstlerisch, kreativen Musiker kommt immer der planerische, strukturierte Techniker dazu.
Ich will ein System immer verbessern und weiter entwickeln. Das passiert auch kontinuierlich beim „FIGHT CLUB“.

Wie entsteht ein Song? Erst die Melodie, oder erst der Text?

Ein Song entsteht mit einer Idee oder einer Eingebung. Deswegen bin ich da nie ganz festgelegt.
Die Idee für den Song „The Elevator Paradox“ kam z.B. durch den gleichnamigen Wikipedia-Artikel.
Die Geschichte die zum Artikel in meinem Kopf entstanden ist, ist zuerst in einer Songtextpassage gemündet.
Anschließend habe ich dann aber eine düstere Bassline erarbeitet, um sofort die passende Stimmung zu erzeugen. Den Rest habe ich parallel finalisiert.
Ich denke, ich habe da eine eigene Vorgehensweise, in dem ich es gerne gleichzeitig mache.
Manchmal ist der Text, manchmal eine Harmonie der Startpunkt. Der Tüftler halt…

Was ist deine Inspirationsquelle?

Meine Quelle ist mein eigenes Leben. Ich bin ein glücklicher, positiver und zielstrebiger Mensch und habe ein großartiges Leben. Dennoch habe ich eine starke dunkle Seite, die ich in der Musik ausleben kann.
Je älter ich werde, desto mehr verstehe ich auch, wer ich selbst bin. Ich weiß mittlerweile genau was mein Weg war und wie mein Weg ungefähr noch aussehen wird. Zu diesem Weg gehören immer Menschen. Positiv wie negativ. Menschen, die einen fürs Leben inspirieren und einen später fast zerbrechen lassen. Das ist das Leben.
Das Leben bietet unglaublich viel Futter für Songs. Besonders für düstere. Ist doch schön.

Was bedeutet für dich Musik?

Musik ist alles, ein eigenes Universum. Eines, in dem ich lebe, parallel zu der eigentlichen Welt.
Auch da gibt es schöne und weniger schöne Ecken. Aber ich habe meinen Platz dort gefunden.

Welche Musik hörst du privat?

Da bin ich sehr szenekonform unterwegs: Dark Electro, Hellelectro, Industrial, Dark Wave, EBM, Future Pop etc.
Es muss schon elektronisch sein. Alles abseits des Synthesizers langweilt mich schnell.
Ausnahmen gibt es natürlich ab und zu mal.

Gibt es musikalische Vorbilder?

Absolut: ich liebe „Pride and Fall“ und „Dismantled“ aufgrund ihrer einfachen Art komplexe musikalische Strukturen auf eine geniale Art harmonisch und spannend zu verpacken. Diese beiden Bands werden für mich nie langweilig.

• Auf eine einsame Insel würde ich einen Synthesizer, Spotify und gute Kopfhörer mitnehmen
• Ich habe in meinem Home-Studio alles was ich brauche um einen Song zu produzieren
• Ich bevorzuge Software Synthesizer (VST plugins)
• Meine Hardware Synthesizer sind alle analog um damit etwas „unnatürlicher“ zu klingen
• Ich würde gerne zu einer Klangprobe auf den Mars. Dort klingen Töne anders.

Ebenfalls arbeite ich aktuell an neuen Songs. Am 08.12. erscheint die Single „Powerful Core“ auf
allen bekannten Plattformen. Ein Song über die eigene, innere Stärke.

Introduce yourself briefly / band introduction

I’m Tobi, the C.F.O. from DEATH VALLEY FIGHT CLUB C.F.O., a dark electro project.
In this case means Chief Fighting Officer. As you can hear, I’m the boss. That’s because I’m the only permanent project member 😉
The “FIGHT CLUB” in the name stands for the fights that every person has in life. Some more, some less. But everyone has their battles to fight. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose.
The “DEATH VALLEY” refers less to the place than to the own, inner valley of death in which everyone finds themselves.
So all in all my songs are hard, just like life can be: dark, melancholic & skeptical of humanity but also combative, powerful and sonorous.
I live in Stuttgart, Germany and also have my music studio in my apartment there.
From composing over lyrics to graphics, I do everything myself.

When and how did you come to music?

That must have been the day I was born. I am said to have screamed particularly deeply and darkly back then.
All joking aside: I’m more of a side entrant. As a teenager, I started making my first music snippets using “Magix Music Maker” on my 386 PC. I was somewhat abstinent from music, but never really
away from it.
I don’t have any classical music education or anything like that, I’m more of a sound tinkerer and have tried everything. This winter I decided to learn to play the drums properly.

Do you live from music full-time? If no, what is your profession?

My main job is an engineer in the automotive industry. This is where my penchant for tinkering comes from. In addition to the artistic, creative musician, there is always the planning, structured technician.
I always want to improve and further develop a system. This also happens continuously at the “FIGHT CLUB”.

How is a song created? First the melody, or first the lyrics?

A song is created with an idea or an inspiration. That’s why I’m never completely determined.
The idea for the song “The Elevator Paradox” came from the Wikipedia article of the same name.
The story that arose in my head for the article first resulted in a song lyric passage.
Then I created a dark bassline to immediately create the right mood. I finalized the rest in parallel.
I think I have my own approach where I like to do it at the same time. Sometimes the text, sometimes a harmony, is the starting point. The tinkerer…

What is your source of inspiration?

My source is my own life. I am a happy, positive and determined person and have a great life.
Nevertheless, I have a strong dark side that I can live out in music.
The older I get, the more I understand who I am. I now know exactly what my path was and roughly what my path will look like. This path always involves people. Positive and negative.
People whoinspire you for life and then almost break you later. This is life.
Life offers a never ending source for songs. Especially for dark ones. That’s great.

What does music mean to you?

Music is everything. Music is its own universe. One in which I live, parallel to the actual world.
There are also beautiful and less beautiful corners. But I found my place there.

What music do you listen to privately?

I’m very in tune with the scene: Dark Electro, Hell Electro, Industrial, Dark Wave, EBM, Future Pop etc.
It has to be electronic. Anything outside of a synthesizer sound quickly bores me.
Of course there are exceptions from time to time.

Are there any musical role models?

Absolutely: I love “Pride and Fall” and “Dismantled” because of their simple way of packaging complex musical structures in a brilliant way, harmoniously and excitingly.
These two bands never get boring for me.

Five facts about you

• I would take a synthesizer, Spotify and good headphones with me to a deserted island
• I have everything I need to produce a song in my home studio
• I prefer software synthesizers (VST plugins)
• My hardware synthesizers are all analog to have a little more of a “unnatural” sound
• I would like to go to Mars for a sound test, because music sounds different there

I’m currently in the finals of Sonic Seducer magazine’s BATTLE OF THE BANDS competition.
I’m also currently working on new songs. On December 8th the single “Powerful Core” will be released on all known platforms. A song about your own inner strength.
