Moaan Exis ist ein französisches Neo-Industrial-Duo, Xavier: live drum, Mathieu: vox, samples, progamramming, perc. We start in 2016. Wir haben 4 Ep und 3 Alben, produziert auf Audiotrauma (fr), Industrial Strength records (usa), Negative Gain (usa), Hybrid Blak (uk) und selbst produziert.

Wann und wie bist du zur Musik gekommen?

Ich habe mit 5 Jahren angefangen, Saxophon und klassische Musik an der Musikhochschule zu lernen.

Lebst du hauptberuflich von der Musik? Wenn nein, was ist dein Beruf?

Ich bin fast hauptberuflich Musiker, mache aber auch zusätzliche technische Bühnenjobs als Lichttechniker oder Roadies für Veranstaltungsorte.

Wie entsteht ein Song? Zuerst die Melodie, oder zuerst der Text?

Ich komponiere zuerst den Rhythmus und die Melodie, und passe dann den Text dazu an! Für mich ist es offensichtlich, dass ich zuerst die Rythmen und das Sounddesign komponiere, ich bin am Anfang kein Sänger, aber vielleicht ändert sich das eines Tages.

Was ist deine Inspirationsquelle?

Mystik, Politik, Trauma für die Texte. Wut und Zorn für die Musik.

Nach welchen Kriterien wird die Setlist zusammengestellt?

Nach einem maximalen Dampfwalzen-Set! Und natürlich auch die ganz neuen Stücke.

Was bedeutet Musik für dich?

Für mich ist es eine Art Flucht beim Hören/Komponieren. Musik kann eine tiefe Art des Ausdrucks sein. Sie hilft den Leuten auch, abzuschalten und sich live maximal zu entfesseln. Das beste Feedback, das ich für meine Musik bekomme, ist, wenn ich sehe, wie die Leute während der Show lächeln, obwohl ich brutale Musik mache und aufführe.

Welche Musik hörst du privat?

Stoner, Drumbass, Klassik, Punk, Old School Rock… Industrial.

Gibt es musikalische Vorbilder?

Klar, ich bin ein langjähriger Musiker, ich fühle mich von vielen Vorbildern inspiriert, solange ich dabei etwas fühle (Glück, Wut, Traurigkeit,…)

Introduce yourself briefly / band introduction

Moaan Exis is a French neo-industrial duo, Xavier: live drum, Mathieu: vox, samples, progamramming, perc. We start in 2016. We have 4 ep and 3 albums, produced on Audiotrauma (fr), Industrial Strength records (usa), Negative Gain (usa), Hybrid Blak (uk) and self produced.

When and how did you / you come to music?

I started music at 5 years old, learning saxophone and classical music at music academy. 

Do you live from music full-time? If no, what is your profession?

I’m almost full time musicians, I also do extra technical stage job as light technician or roadies for venues.

How is a song created? First the melody, or first the lyrics?

I compose rythme and Melody first, and adapte lyrics to that ! It’s obvious for me to start by composing the rythms and sounds designs, I’m not vocalist at the beginning, but maybe the process will change one day.

What is your source of inspiration?

Mysticism, politic, trauma for the lyrics. Rage and fury for the music.

According to which criteria is the setlist put together?

According to perform a maximum steamroller set! And of course include the very new tracks.

What does music mean to you?

For me, it’s a kind of escape during listening/composing. Music can be a deep kind of expression. It also help people to disconnect, unleash themselves a maximum during live. The best feedback I get from my music is seeing people smiling to me during the show even though I make and perform violent music.

What music do you listen to privately?

Stoner, drumnbass, classic, punk, old school rock… Industrial.

Are there any musical role models?

Sure, I’m a longtime musician, I feel inspired by many models, as long as it make me feel something (happiness, rage, sadness,…)
