Danke, dass du dir für mich Zeit nimmst! ? Ich freue mich sehr. Stelle dich doch und dein Projekt kurz vor.

Klaus

ROTOSKOP ist mein musikalisches Alter Ego. Die erste Veröffentlichung war das Album ‚Revolution:Lost‘ aus dem Jahr 2003. Damals noch mit Gastsängern wie u.a. Phillip Boa oder Foetus. Trotz bester medialer Resonanz war dieses Prinzip aber unbefriedigend für mich, da es live nicht adäquat umzusetzen war. Und immer wieder neue Sänger zu begeistern war extrem zeitaufwendig. Die Folgezeit bestand dann aus Suche, Fehlern und manchmal Verzweiflung.

Nur Remixe habe ich in dieser Zeit veröffentlicht. U.a. für Künstler wie Apoptygma Berzerk oder De/Vision. 2021 gab es dann endlich den aktuellen Neubeginn mit mir als Sänger. Seither habe ich einige EPs und Alben herausgebracht.
Anfang des Jahres 2023 konnte ich ROTOSKOP dann endlich live auf die Bühne bringen. Die Support-Shows für Sono wurden extrem gut vom Publikum aufgenommen. Was mich sehr motiviert hat weiter hart für ROTOSKOP zu arbeiten.

Also ein eher holperiger Start, den du aber genutzt hast, um weiter an dir und deinem Projekt zu arbeiten.
Einfach ist es ganz sicher nicht.
Wie bist du überhaupt auf die Idee kommen, Musik zu machen und Rotoskop ins Leben zu rufen?

Klaus

Schon als kleiner Junge war meine größte Liebe die Musik. Ende der 70er und Anfang der 80er wurde ich von Punk und New Wave infiziert. Schon damals fing ich an mir das Gitarre-Spielen beizubringen.
Bis heute ist es keine Entscheidung Musik zu machen. Sondern ich fühle mich getrieben.
Das klingt möglicherweise negativ. Aber für mich ist es absolut positiv.
Rotoskop wurde von mir Solo gestartet nachdem ich auch Erfahrungen in Bandkonstellationen gemacht habe. Aber es gab auch kaum jemanden der meine Passion teilen und mein Tempo mitgehen konnte. Wahrscheinlich war ich auch zu ungestüm und dickköpfig ?

Wie es mir scheint, haben wir ein paar Gemeinsamkeiten ?
Wie entsteht bei dir ein Song? wie gehst du vor? Hast du einen roten Faden oder ist es immer unterschiedlich?

Klaus

Songs entstehen ganz unterschiedlich. Manchmal klimpere ich auf Gitarre oder dem Klavier und finde Akkord-Abfolgen die mich kicken. Basierend auf den Akkorden folgt dann die Melodie.
Manchmal spiele ich aber mit meiner selbst erstellten Sample Library. Lasse mich inspirieren. Manchmal fühle ich mich dann wie ein Kind im Spielzeugladen.
Wie auch immer sich die Songs entwickeln am Ende braucht jeder von ihnen auch noch Lyrics. Das ist für mich dann die härteste Arbeit. Da ich keine „I Love you“ Lyrics mag ist alleine die Themenwahl schon eine Qual. Und dann die richtigen Worte finden ist hart. Denn sie sollen ja nicht nur Sinn sondern auch die Melodie ergeben.
Wenn sich der Song dann irgendwann formt ist es ein Hochgefühl etwas geschaffen zu haben.

Das glaube ich dir sogar sehr gern ? (ohne witz wir haben krass viel gemeinsam. Ich musste so schmunzeln über: ich mag keine I Love you lyrics…wahnsinn)…

Nenne mir doch fünf Fakten über dich ?

Klaus

1. Ich mache schon sehr lange Musik und hatte meine erste VÖ schon 1988. Wenngleich unter anderen Namen und auch anderen Konstellationen.
2. ich werde nie aufhören Musik zu lieben. Sie zu kreieren oder zu genießen
3. meine Haltung gegen rechte Dummdödel werde ich nicht nur privat, sondern auch als Künstler vertreten
4. ich werde nie meinen kreativen Output einem Zielpublikum anpassen. Sondern immer weiter nach dem Publikum suchen und es umwerben. Und zwar die, die sich vom ROTOSKOP Sound angezogen fühlen.
5. mag ich eigentlich keine Listen erstellen – hahaha

ROTOSKOP is my musical alter ego. The first release was the album ‘Revolution:Lost’ from 2003, at that time with guest singers like Phillip Boa or Foetus. Despite the best media response, this principle was unsatisfactory for me, because it could not be adequately implemented live. And to inspire new singers again and again was extremely time-consuming. The following time consisted of search, mistakes and sometimes despair.

I only released remixes during this time. Among others for artists like Apoptygma Berzerk or De/Vision. In 2021 there was finally the current new beginning with me as a singer. Since then I have released several EPs and albums.
At the beginning of 2023 I could finally bring ROTOSKOP live on stage. The support shows for Sono were extremely well received by the audience. Which motivated me a lot to keep working hard for ROTOSKOP.

So a rather bumpy start, but you used it to keep working on yourself and your project.
It’s certainly not easy.
How did you come up with the idea of making music and bringing Rotoskop to life in the first place?

Klaus

Even as a little boy, my greatest love was music. At the end of the 70s and beginning of the 80s I was infected by Punk and New Wave. Even then I started to teach myself how to play the guitar.
Until today it is not a decision to make music. But rather I feel driven.
This may sound negative. But for me it is absolutely positive.
Rotoskop was started by me solo after I also had experiences in band constellations. But there was hardly anyone who could share my passion and keep up with my tempo. Probably I was too impetuous and stubborn ?

It seems to me that we have a few things in common ?
How do you create a song ? how do you go about it ? Do you have a common thread or is it always different?

Klaus

Songs come about in very different ways. Sometimes I strum the guitar or piano and find chord progressions that kick me. Based on the chords the melody follows.
But sometimes I play with my self-made sample library. Let myself be inspired. Sometimes I feel like a kid in a toy store.
However the songs develop, in the end each of them needs lyrics. That’s the hardest work for me. Since I don’t like “I Love you” lyrics, the choice of topic alone is torture. And then finding the right words is hard. Because they should not only make sense but also the melody.
When the song finally forms, it’s a great feeling to have created something.

Klaus

1. i’ve been making music for a long time and had my first release in 1988, although under different names and in different constellations.
2. I will never stop loving music. To create it or to enjoy it
3. I will not only stand up for my position against right-wing idiots in my private life, but also as an artist.
4. I will never adapt my creative output to a target audience. But always continue to seek and woo the audience. Namely those who are attracted to the ROTOSKOP sound.
