Interview: Against I

Stelle dich kurz vor / Bandvorstellung

Mein Name ist Fredrik, Gründer und Frontmann von Against I.
Wir sind drei Jungs aus Schweden, die eine Mischung aus Industrial/Aggrotech/Metal-Fusion machen.
Die Band besteht aus mir, der alle Texte, Musik und Gesang schreibt. Mathias, der Gitarre spielt, und Anders, der Schlagzeug spielt.

Wann und wie bist du zur Musik gekommen?

Ich bin 2002 zur Musik gekommen, als ich einer Band namens “Azazel” (die es nicht mehr gibt) beigetreten bin.
Damals hatte ich außer unter der Dusche noch nie etwas gesungen.  Aber es ebnete den Weg für meine zukünftige Musik-“Karriere”.
Aber um ehrlich zu sein, glaube ich, dass ich um 2007 herum mit einer Band namens “Something Infected”, die eine Mischung aus Gothic und Dark Electro spielte, angefangen habe, Musik zu machen.

Wie entsteht ein Song? Zuerst die Melodie, dann der Text?

Als erstes entstehen immer die Melodie, der Bass und das Schlagzeug. Wenn ich einen Text schreibe, kann der Song entweder fertig oder halbfertig sein. Es gibt keine wirklichen Regeln, ich passe den Text immer erst nach dem Song an.
Manchmal ist der Text sogar schon fertig, bevor der Song fertig ist, hahaha.

Was bedeutet Musik für dich?

Musik ist mein Leben, sie bedeutet alles für mich. Ich wüsste nicht, was ich tun würde, wenn ich keine neue Musik hören und schreiben könnte. Sie ist in meiner DNA. Es ist ein Gefühl, das wirklich alles sein kann.

Letzte Neuigkeiten / Konzertdaten / Infos

Unser Debütalbum “Carnival of Excess” wurde soeben auf CD und Spotify veröffentlicht (die vollständige digitale Veröffentlichung wird etwas später erfolgen). Und eine Coverversion von Deathstars Song “Blitzkrieg” wird im August/September erscheinen.
Leider sind im Moment keine Live-Shows geplant, aber wir hoffen, dass wir bald welche haben werden.

Introduce yourself briefly / Band introduction

My name is Fredrik, founder and front man of Against I.
We are three guys from Sweden who create a mix of industrial/aggrotech/metal fusion.
The band consists of myself who writes all lyrics, music and vocals. Mathias who plays guitar and Anders who plays drums.

When and how did you get into music?

I got into music around 2002 when I joined a band called “Azazel” (who doesn’t exist anymore).
Back then I had never done any singing besides in the shower.  But it paved the way for my future music “career”.
But to be honest I think when I really started to get into music was around 2007 with a band called something Infected which played a mix of goth and dark electro.

How is a song created? First the melody, then the lyrics?

The first things created are always the melody, bass and basic drums. When I write lyrics the song can either be done or halfway done. There are no real rules, I always adapt the lyrics after the song.
Sometimes the lyrics can even be done before the song is hahaha.

What does music mean to you?

Music is my life, it means everything to me. I don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t  listen to and write new music. It’s in my DNA. It’s a feeling which can be anything really.

Our debut “Carnival of Excess” was just released on CD and spotify (full digital release will come a bit later). And a cover of Deathstars song “Blitzkrieg” will be arriving in August/September.
Sadly, no live shows planned right now, but we hope to get some soon.
