Hallo, ich bin RavenRissy und ich bin der Leadsänger und Gründer der Band Hem Netjer.
Hem Netjer macht Dark Electronic Folk Musik aus Vancouver, BC, Kanada. Inspiriert von dem mittelägyptischen Wort für den Diener Gottes (Priester), kombinieren wir alte Geschichten, traditionelle Instrumente und moderne Technologie.
Wann und wie bist du zur Musik gekommen?
Ich bin Musiker, seit ich 6 Jahre alt bin. Ich begann mit dem klassischen Klavierspiel im Alter von 6 bis 17 Jahren. Seit dieser Zeit habe ich auch im Chor gesungen. Ich spiele Geige, Tagelharpa, Perkussion, Rahmentrommel und Computer, aber mein Hauptinstrument ist der Gesang.
Wie entsteht ein Lied? Erst die Melodie, dann der Text?
Das kommt auf den Song an. Bei vielen schreibe ich den Text und die Melodie für den Text, und dann kreiert mein Bandkollege David Deckard die Synthesizermelodien und ich komponiere den Song mit seiner Hilfe. Songs wie Elemental Cry von unserem neuen Album The Song of Trees oder Solar Tide von unserer EP Kemet waren die Ausnahmen. Sie hatten zuerst die Synthesizermelodie und dann kamen der Text und die Gesangsmelodie.
Was bedeutet Musik für dich?
Musik ist für mich Leben. Sie füttert meine Seele. Sie ist ein emotionaler Ausdruck von Situationen, die sich nur schwer in alltägliche Worte fassen lassen. Musik ist Magie. Sie ist ein Weg, um das Unerklärliche zu erklären, um Situationen zu verstehen, die einer tieferen Erklärung bedürfen. Für mich selbst ist die Musik ein wesentlicher Bestandteil meines täglichen Lebens und meiner Fähigkeit, meine Erfahrungen auszudrücken. Die gesamte Musik von Hem Nejter ist ein Ausdruck meiner Verletzlichkeit.
Fünf Fakten über Sie
- Ich habe einen Abschluss in Grafikdesign, mit dem ich alle Werbematerialien und Logos von Hem Netjer gestalte, sowie einen Abschluss in Kunst und Archäologie des Alten Orients mit den Schwerpunkten Ägyptologie und Kunstgeschichte.
- Außerdem habe ich an der Emily Carr University Malerei und Zeichnen studiert.
- Ich bin ein großer Nerd, Herr der Ringe, The Witcher, Vampire the Masquerade.
- Ich spreche mittelmäßig Deutsch und habe unser Lied Anubis auf Altmittelägyptisch geschrieben.
Ich singe es auf Mittelägyptisch und das Textvideo ist das einzige da draußen mit ägyptischen Hieroglyphen, die ich von Hand gezeichnet habe.
- Ich bin auch ein praktizierender Heide.
Was möchtest du deinen Fans noch sagen?
Ich danke euch allen so sehr für eure Unterstützung. Wir haben in der Zeit des Lockdowns angefangen und die Welt der Kunst und Kultur hat einen großen Einbruch erlitten und die Musikindustrie ist fast zusammengebrochen. Wir verdanken es also den Leuten, die Musik kaufen, die zu den Konzerten kommen, die online und persönlich Merch kaufen. Eure beständige Unterstützung für Live-Musik ist ein Geschenk und wir sind sehr dankbar und werden unser Bestes geben, um euch unser Geschenk der Lieder zurückzugeben.

Introduce yourself briefly
Hello I am RavenRissy and I am the lead singer and creator of the band Hem Netjer.
Hem Netjer creates Dark Electronic Folk music based out of Vancouver, BC, Canada. Inspired by the middle Egyptian word for god’s servant (priest), we combine ancient stories, traditional instruments and modern technology.
When and how did you get into music?
I have been a musician since I was 6 years old. I started in classical piano from the age of 6 to 17. I also was in choral singing from those times too. I play fiddle, tagelharpa, percussion, frame drum, computer, but my main instrument is voice.
How is a song created? First the melody, then the lyrics?
It depends on the song. A lot of them I write out the lyrics and the melody for the lyrics and then my bandmate David Deckard creates the synth melodies and I compose the song with his help. Song like Elemental Cry from our new album The Song of Trees or Solar Tide from our EP Kemet where the exceptions to that. They had the synth melody first and then the lyrics and vocal melody came after.
What does music mean to you?
Music to me is life. It feeds my soul. Its an emotional expression of situations that are hard to put into everyday words. Music is magic. It is a way to explain the unexplainable, to understand situations that need a more deeper explaination. For myself, music is essential to my daily life and to my ability to express my experiences. All of the music of Hem Nejter is an expression of my vulnerability.
Five facts about you
– Well, I have a degree in Graphic Design which I use it to create all of Hem Netjer’s merch and logos, as well as a degree in the Art and Archaeology of the Ancient Near East, specializing in Egyptology and Art History.
– I also went to Emily Carr University for Painting and Drawing
– I am a huge nerd, Lord of the Rings, The Witcher, Vampire the Masquerade.
– I speak intermediate German and wrote our song Anubis in Ancient Middle Egyptian . I sing it in Middle Egyptian and the lyric video is the only one out there with Egyptian hieroglyphs, which i drew by hand.
– I am also a practicing Heathen pagan.
What else would you like to say to your fans?
Thank you all so much for your support. We started in the lock down and the world of arts and culture took a huge hit and the music Industry pretty much almost collapsed. So it is thanks to people who buy music, who come out to shows, who buy merch online and in person. Your consistent support for live music is a gift and we are very grateful and will to our best to give our gift of song back to you.
