Guten Tag, ich bin Zufo, Keyboarder der spanischen Electro-Metal-Band HASSWUT. Wir sind eine Band, die seit etwa 10 Jahren aktiv ist und aus drei Mitgliedern besteht: Javier an der Gitarre und den Programmierungen, Daniel am Gesang und ich an den Synthesizern.

Wann und wie bist du zur Musik gekommen?

Seit meiner Kindheit hat mich Musik immer fasziniert. In meiner Jugend begann ich, mich intensiver damit zu beschäftigen, als ich elektronische Musik und Metal entdeckte. Mit der Zeit lernte ich, Keyboard zu spielen und mit Synthesizern zu experimentieren, was mich schließlich dazu brachte, Teil von HASSWUT zu werden.

Bevor ich eine Band gründete, war ich bereits in der Musikwelt aktiv – mit meinem eigenen Portal für Interviews und Rezensionen sowie als Manager im kleinen Rahmen für einige Bands.

Lebst du von der Musik hauptberuflich? Wenn Nein, welchen Beruf übst du aus?

Nein, ich lebe nicht hauptberuflich von der Musik. Neben der Band arbeite ich als Informatiker, was mir ermöglicht, meine Leidenschaft für die Musik weiterzuverfolgen und gleichzeitig finanziell abgesichert zu sein. Wie viele Musiker in unserem Genre ist es eine Herausforderung, ausschließlich von der Musik zu leben, aber wir geben immer unser Bestes, um unsere Band weiterzuentwickeln.

Wie entsteht ein Song? Erst die Melodie, oder erst der Text?

Normalerweise fange ich mit einem Rhythmus oder einer Melodie an, und von dort aus gibt Javi dem Song die Form. Wir haben jedoch keine konkrete Vorstellung davon, was wir am Anfang suchen; wir lassen einfach zu, dass die Ideen spontan im Verlauf des Prozesses entstehen.

Normalerweise nehmen wir nie einen Text und verwandeln ihn direkt in Musik. Es beginnt immer mit der Melodie; wir arbeiten zuerst an ihr, bis das Lied komplett ist. Sobald die Melodie festgelegt ist, passen wir den Text an, damit er perfekt zur Musik und dem Rhythmus des Songs passt. Dieser Prozess ermöglicht es uns, etwas Organisches und Fließendes zu schaffen, da der Text mit der Melodie harmonieren muss, um die Emotionen besser zu vermitteln, die wir ausdrücken möchten.

Was ist deine Inspirationsquelle?

Wir haben eigentlich keine einzige Inspirationsquelle, aber gleichzeitig viele, die uns unbewusst dazu führen, einen bestimmten Musikstil zu kreieren. Wir sind keine Virtuosen der Musik, daher wäre es sehr schwierig, einfach andere Bands zu kopieren, und wahrscheinlich würden wir es nicht richtig hinbekommen.

Nach welchen Kriterien wird die Setlist zusammengestellt?

Wenn du dich auf die Lieder beziehst, die jedes Album bilden, haben wir kein festes oder klares Kriterium, sondern es basiert eher auf wirtschaftlichen Überlegungen. Wir sind keine große Band, die tausende von Euro in umfangreiche und hochbudgetierte Aufnahmen investieren kann, was unsere Möglichkeiten, umfangreiche Musik zu produzieren, erheblich einschränkt.

Was die Konzerte betrifft, haben wir immer versucht, Lieder aus allen unseren Alben zu integrieren.
Für die neue Tour haben wir jedoch beschlossen, einige der älteren Songs hinter uns zu lassen. Das liegt daran, dass sich die Klangqualität im Laufe der Jahre stark verändert hat und diese Songs live nicht mehr so gut klingen wie früher. Auf der Bühne haben diese alten Stücke nicht mehr die gleiche Kraft und den gleichen Impact, und wir bevorzugen es, uns auf Lieder zu konzentrieren, die besser zum aktuellen Sound der Band passen.

Natürlich werden die Klassiker immer dabei sein. Diese Lieder, die einen wesentlichen Teil unserer Identität als Band ausmachen, werden weiterhin Teil unseres Repertoires sein, weil wir wissen, dass sie von unseren Fans am meisten geschätzt werden.

Was bedeutet für dich Musik?

Es mag klischeehaft klingen, aber Musik ist der Motor, der uns jeden Tag antreibt, nicht nur, weil wir in einer Band sind, sondern auch, weil wir echte Enthusiasten sind, die ständig neue Bands entdecken. Wir kaufen ihre Alben, gehen zu Konzerten und bleiben in allen Aspekten der Musik immer verbunden.

Ich kann mir nicht vorstellen, wie mein Leben gewesen wäre, wenn ich die Fähigkeit, zu hören, verloren hätte. Musik ist ein grundlegender Teil meines Seins und meines Alltags.

Welche Musik hörst du privat?

Es tut mir leid, aber ich habe keine Band, die ich privat höre und die mich in Verlegenheit bringen würde. Mein Musikgeschmack ist ziemlich breit, immer innerhalb des Rock- oder Elektronikbereichs.
Ich kann von Punk, Nu Metal, Metalcore bis hin zu Harsh Electro, EBM und vielen anderen Subgenres genießen. Tatsächlich liebe ich es, verschiedene Stile innerhalb dieser Genres zu erkunden, da sie mir ermöglichen, neue und frische Klänge zu entdecken, die mich mit der Energie der Musik verbinden.

Was ich nicht so gerne höre, sind die klassischeren Stile wie traditionellen Heavy Metal, AOR oder Death Metal. Es ist nicht so, dass ich diese Genres nicht respektiere, aber persönlich fühle ich mich weniger davon angezogen. Ich denke, jedes Genre hat etwas Einzigartiges zu bieten, aber mein Interesse liegt immer eher bei den experimentelleren und aggressiveren Seiten von Rock und Elektronik.

Gibt es musikalische Vorbilder?

Ja, obwohl nicht unbedingt aus den Stilen, die wir normalerweise hören, die weiter von der Musik entfernt sind, die wir machen.

Wir hören viel NDH aus Deutschland, wie Eisbrecher, OOMPH!, OST+Front, Heldmaschine, aber gleichzeitig ziehen wir auch viel Inspiration von Bands wie Combichrist, Nachtmahr, Turmion Kätilöt… und ich denke, genau diese Mischung lässt uns elektronischer klingen als die zuerst genannten Bands.

Was ist die wichtigste Musikequipment-Erfindung aller Zeiten-und warum?

Mehr als eine spezifische Erfindung im Bereich der Musik denke ich, dass die wichtigste Entdeckung die Elektrizität war. Die Elektrizität eröffnete eine Vielzahl von Möglichkeiten, die es ermöglichten, elektrische Instrumente wie die E-Gitarre und Synthesizer zu entwickeln, die die Musik revolutionierten. Diese Instrumente führten zu einer neuen Art der klanglichen Ausdrucksweise, die aggressiver, energetischer und viel mehr von Haltung geprägt war als traditionelle Instrumente.

Die Elektrizität hat nicht nur die Art und Weise verändert, wie Klänge erzeugt werden, sondern auch die Entwicklung experimentellerer und intensiverer Musikstile wie Rock, Metal und Elektronische Musik ermöglicht, die durch ihre Kraft und Fähigkeit, rohe und direkte Emotionen zu vermitteln, charakterisiert sind. Ohne die Elektrizität und die technologischen Fortschritte, die mit ihr einhergingen, wäre die Musik, wie wir sie heute kennen, nicht die gleiche.

Erzähle von deiner schönsten oder schlimmsten Erfahrung auf der Bühne.


Die schönste Erfahrung ist für uns drei eindeutig, und das war vor einigen Jahren in Fritzar beim Festival Rock am Stück. Wir hätten nie gedacht, dass wir so eine tolle Akzeptanz in Deutschland bekommen würden, vor allem weil unser Deutsch damals noch viel Raum für Verbesserung hatte. Nach dem Konzert zu sehen, wie alle Leute auf uns zuliefen, um Autogramme zu bekommen, Merchandising zu kaufen… dieses Gefühl ist unbeschreiblich. Wir erinnern uns auch sehr gerne daran, als wir Blutengel als Vorband supporteten. Chris war für uns immer eine sehr wichtige Figur in der Szene, und die Demut, mit der er und seine Band uns behandelten, hat uns sprachlos gemacht. Wir werden ihm immer dankbar sein, weil er uns gezeigt hat, dass man groß sein kann und trotzdem mit beiden Füßen auf dem Boden bleibt.

Was schlechte Erfahrungen betrifft, gibt es keine, die man so leicht vergessen würde. Es gibt jedoch einige Venues, in denen wir gespielt haben, zu denen wir niemals zurückkehren würden, oder Bands, mit denen wir lieber nicht mehr zusammen spielen möchten, aufgrund der Arroganz, mit der sie die anderen Bands und die Organisation behandelt haben.

Gibt es Rituale vor der Show?

Die Wahrheit ist, dass wir keinen bestimmten Ritual folgen, aber von Anfang an haben wir die Gewohnheit entwickelt, uns vor dem Auftritt ein Selfie zu machen, auf dem wir uns blöd anstellen, und es in den sozialen Medien anzukündigen, dass wir bald auf die Bühne gehen. Diese Tradition haben wir seit unserem ersten Konzert beibehalten und werden sie weiterhin machen. Was würdest du deinem 18-Jährigem Ich sagen? Fang so früh wie möglich an, ein Instrument zu üben. Denk nicht nur daran, sondern mach es! Steh auf, schalt den Fernseher aus und widme dich dem Üben.

Hast du schlechte Angewohnheiten?

Die Wahrheit ist, dass keiner von uns in der Band schlechte Gewohnheiten hat.

Das typische „Sex, Drogen und Rock ’n‘ Roll“ passt nicht zu uns; Im Allgemeinen sind wir keine Band, die für exzessives Feiern bekannt ist. Wir mögen es, alles, was wir tun, unter Kontrolle zu haben, damit alles so gut wie möglich läuft.

Unsere Jahre des Chaos liegen bereits hinter uns.

Was machst du, wenn dich niemand sieht?

Vielleicht vermitteln wir in den sozialen Medien den Eindruck, dass wir immer an unserem Alltag oder an der Band arbeiten, aber in Wirklichkeit genießen wir es sehr, uns von allem zu erholen, um eine Überlastung zu vermeiden. Deshalb genießen wir, wenn uns niemand sieht, unsere Freizeit wie jeder andere auch, machen Sport, gehen in die Berge und suchen nach einem Gleichgewicht in unserem Leben.

Was ist der seltsamste Ort, an dem du jemals warst?

Ich bin keine Person, die sich leicht beeindrucken lässt, was es mir ermöglicht, mich an jeden Ort oder jede Situation anzupassen. Ich mag es nicht, ins Unbekannte zu gehen; ich plane lieber alles im Voraus.

Was bringt dich auf die Palme?

Was mich wirklich auf die Palme bringt, ist das Verhalten mancher Menschen in den sozialen Medien. Diejenigen, die nur kommen, um Hass zu verbreiten oder sich ständig über alles zu beschweren, ohne bereit zu sein, nach Lösungen zu suchen. Gibt es etwas, was Fans machen könnten, für dich als absolutes NoGo wäre? Im Allgemeinen waren die Fans immer sehr respektvoll. Nur in seltenen Fällen gab es einen obsessiven Fan, aber vor allem in den sozialen Medien. Wir haben nicht Millionen von Fans, sodass die „schlechten Fans“ nicht viele sind, also ist das momentan kein Thema, das ich mir mache. Fannah oder doch lieber zurückgezogen? Leider habe ich mit der Zeit und dem Kennenlernen der Musikindustrie den Fanatismus, den ich früher für viele Bands hatte, verloren. Man merkt, dass wir alle normale Menschen sind, mit Vor- und Nachteilen, und dass da nichts weiter dahinter steckt.

Fünf Fakten über dich

• Ich mag soziale Medien nicht. Ich benutze sie nur aus Notwendigkeit wegen der Band, aber nicht auf persönlicher Ebene.
• Ich mag es, ständig über jedes Thema zu lernen, immer auf der Suche nach neuen Kenntnissen und Erfahrungen.
• Mein Privatleben und meine Familie stehen an erster Stelle, und das hat immer Vorrang vor allem anderen.
• Ich lebe in einer Region, in der fast das ganze Jahr über schönes Wetter und Sonnenschein herrschen. Deshalb liebe ich extreme Stürme und Naturkatastrophen (aber nicht den schädlichen Teil, den sie verursachen können).
• Wie ich bereits sagte, kann ich nicht ohne Musik leben. Du kannst mir zum Beispiel Delikatessen oder Getränke wegnehmen, aber niemals die Musik.

Introduce yourself / Band introduction

Hello, I’m Zufo, keyboardist of the Spanish electro-metal band HASSWUT. We are a band that has been active for about 10 years and consists of three members: Javier on guitar and programming, Daniel on vocals and me on synthesizers.

When and how did you get into music?

I’ve always been fascinated by music since I was a child. I started getting more into it in my teens when I discovered electronic music and metal. Over time, I learned to play keyboards and experiment with synthesizers, which eventually led me to become part of HASSWUT.

Before I started a band, I was already active in the music world – with my own portal for interviews and reviews and as a manager on a small scale for a few bands.

Do you make a full-time living from music? If not, what is your main job?

No, I don’t make a full-time living from music. In addition to the band, I work as a computer scientist, which allows me to pursue my passion for music and be financially secure at the same time. Like many musicians in our genre, it’s a challenge to make a living solely from music, but we always do our best to develop our band.

How is a song created? First the melody, or first the lyrics?

I usually start with a rhythm or melody, and from there Javi gives the song its shape. However, we don’t have a specific idea of what we’re looking for at the beginning; we just allow the ideas to come spontaneously during the process.

Normally we never take a lyric and turn it directly into music. It always starts with the melody; we work on it first until the song is complete. Once the melody is set, we adjust the lyrics to fit the music and rhythm of the song perfectly. This process allows us to create something organic and fluid, as the lyrics must harmonize with the melody to better convey the emotions we want to express.

What is your source of inspiration?

We don’t really have a single source of inspiration, but at the same time we have many that unconsciously lead us to create a certain style of music. We are not virtuosos of music, so it would be very difficult to simply copy other bands and we probably wouldn’t get it right.

What criteria do you use to put together the setlist?

If you’re referring to the songs that make up each album, we don’t have a set or clear criteria, it’s more based on commercial considerations. We are not a big band that can invest thousands of euros in extensive and high-budget recordings, which significantly limits our ability to produce extensive music.

As far as the concerts are concerned, we have always tried to include songs from all our albums.
For the new tour, however, we have decided to leave some of the older songs behind. This is because the sound quality has changed a lot over the years and these songs don’t sound as good live as they used to. On stage, these old songs no longer have the same power and impact, and we prefer to focus on songs that fit better with the band’s current sound.

Of course, the classics will always be there. These songs, which are an essential part of our identity as a band, will continue to be part of our repertoire because we know that they are the most appreciated by our fans.

What does music mean to you?

It may sound cliché, but music is the engine that drives us every day, not only because we are in a band, but also because we are real enthusiasts who are constantly discovering new bands. We buy their albums, go to concerts and always stay connected in all aspects of music.

I can’t imagine what my life would have been like if I had lost the ability to listen. Music is a fundamental part of my being and my everyday life.

What music do you listen to in your private life?

I’m sorry, but I don’t have a band that I listen to in private that would embarrass me. My taste in music is pretty broad, always within the rock or electronic realm.
I can enjoy from punk, nu metal, metalcore to harsh electro, EBM and many other sub-genres. In fact, I love exploring different styles within these genres as they allow me to discover new and fresh sounds that connect me to the energy of the music.

What I don’t enjoy listening to so much are the more classic styles like traditional heavy metal, AOR or death metal. It’s not that I don’t respect these genres, but personally I’m less attracted to them. I think each genre has something unique to offer, but my interest always lies more in the more experimental and aggressive sides of rock and electronic.

Do you have any musical role models?

Yes, although not necessarily from the styles we normally listen to, which are further removed from the music we make.

We listen to a lot of NDH from Germany, like Eisbrecher, OOMPH!, OST+Front, Heldmaschine, but at the same time we also draw a lot of inspiration from bands like Combichrist, Nachtmahr, Turmion Kätilöt… and I think it’s exactly this mix that makes us sound more electronic than the first mentioned bands.

What is the most important music equipment invention of all time and why?

More than a specific invention in the field of music, I think the most important discovery was electricity. Electricity opened up a multitude of possibilities that made it possible to develop electric instruments like the electric guitar and synthesizers that revolutionized music. These instruments led to a new kind of sonic expression that was more aggressive, more energetic and much more attitude-driven than traditional instruments.

Electricity not only changed the way sounds were produced, but also enabled the development of more experimental and intense styles of music such as rock, metal and electronic music, characterized by their power and ability to convey raw and direct emotion. Without electricity and the technological advances that came with it, music as we know it today would not be the same.

Tell us about your best or worst experience on stage.


The best experience for the three of us was definitely a few years ago in Fritzar at the Rock am Stück festival. We never thought we would get such a great reception in Germany, especially because our German still had a lot of room for improvement back then. After the concert, seeing all the people running up to us to get autographs, buy merchandise… that feeling is indescribable. We also have fond memories of supporting Blutengel as the opening act. Chris was always a very important figure in the scene for us, and the humility with which he and his band treated us left us speechless. We will always be grateful to him because he showed us that you can be big and still keep your feet on the ground.

As far as bad experiences go, there are none that are easily forgotten. However, there are some venues we have played that we would never go back to, or bands that we would rather not play with again because of the arrogance with which they treated the other bands and the organization.

Are there any pre-show rituals?

The truth is that we don’t follow any particular ritual, but from the beginning we have developed the habit of taking a selfie of ourselves looking stupid before the gig and announcing it on social media that we are about to go on stage. We’ve kept up this tradition since our first concert and will continue to do so. What would you tell your 18-year-old self? Start practicing an instrument as early as possible. Don’t just think about it, do it! Get up, turn off the TV and dedicate yourself to practicing.

Do you have bad habits?

The truth is that none of us in the band have bad habits.

The typical “sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll” doesn’t suit us; in general, we’re not a band known for excessive partying. We like to have everything we do under control so that everything runs as smoothly as possible.

Our years of chaos are already behind us.

What do you do when no one sees you?

Maybe on social media we give the impression that we’re always working on our daily lives or on the band, but in reality we really enjoy taking a break from everything to avoid overworking. Therefore, when no one sees us, we enjoy our free time like everyone else, doing sports, going to the mountains and looking for balance in our lives.

What’s the strangest place you’ve ever been?

I am not a person who is easily impressed, which allows me to adapt to any place or situation. I don’t like going into the unknown; I prefer to plan everything in advance.

What drives you up the wall?

What really drives me up the wall is the behavior of some people on social media. Those who only come to spread hate or constantly complain about everything without being willing to look for solutions. Is there anything fans could do that would be an absolute no-go for you? In general, the fans have always been very respectful. Only on rare occasions has there been an obsessive fan, but especially on social media. We don’t have millions of fans so the “bad fans” aren’t many, so it’s not an issue I’m worried about at the moment. Fannish or rather withdrawn? Unfortunately, as time has gone on and I’ve gotten to know the music industry, I’ve lost the fanaticism I used to have for a lot of bands. You realize that we’re all normal people, with pros and cons, and that there’s nothing more to it than that.

Five facts about you

• I don’t like social media. I only use it out of necessity because of the band, but not on a personal level.
• I like to constantly learn about any subject, always looking for new knowledge and experiences.
• My personal life and my family come first, and that always takes precedence over everything else.
• I live in a region that has beautiful weather and sunshine almost all year round. That’s why I love extreme storms and natural disasters (but not the damaging part they can cause).
• As I said before, I can’t live without music. You can take away delicacies or drinks, for example, but never the music.
