Unter dem Namen Susurration habe ich seit 15 Jahren meine Songs veröffentlicht.
Seit etwa eineinhalb Jahren hat sich daraus eine Band geformt. Wir sind eine hungrige Industrial-Metalband aus Zürich, die musikalisch wie inhaltlich kompromisslos durchstarten will.

Wann und wie bist du zur Musik gekommen?

Mit 14 wurde ich im Rahmen des Konfirmationsunterrichts in den Jugendchor eingeladen. Ich habe mich Hals über Kopf ins Musikmachen verliebt. Dann habe ich sehr schnell begonnen musikalisch alles mögliche auszuprobieren und mit einer akustischen Gitarre und einem kleinen Computermikrofon meine ersten Songs aufzunehmen. Zum Glück habe ich in diesem Chor einen besonderen Menschen kennengelernt, der mich zu meiner ersten Goth-Party mitgenommen hat.

Lebst du von der Musik hauptberuflich? Wenn Nein, welchen Beruf übst du aus?

Ja und nein – ich habe ein Studium in Filmmusik und Musiktheorie gemacht. Ich verdiene mein Geld heute mit Musiktheorie-Unterricht an einer Musikhochschule und komponiere freiberuflich Musik für Theaterprojekte.

Wie entsteht ein Song? Erst die Melodie, oder erst der Text?

Meistens entstehen textliche und musikalische Ideen unabhängig voneinander in den seltsamsten Situationen. Diese Fragmente fügen sich dann in einem langen Prozess zusammen – zunächst allein am Rechner und dann im Studio mit den Inputs der anderen bis schliesslich der ganze Song da ist.

Was ist deine Inspirationsquelle?

Das ganze Leben in seiner Vielfalt inspiriert mich jeden Tag. Geschichten, Erlebnisse und Begegnungen sind die Grundlage von vielen kreativen Prozessen. Die vollste Bandbreite von der Bergwanderung bis zum Kellerclub-Rave in mich aufzunehmen regt meine musikalische Fantasie an. Extrem inspirierend sind für mich auch Filme und zeitgenössische bildende Kunst – am liebsten natürlich die dunkelsten Ecken dieser Ausdrucksformen.

Nach welchen Kriterien wird die Setlist zusammengestellt?

Nach einer spannenden musikalischen Dramaturgie und einem gewissen inhaltlichen roten Faden. Wir überlegen uns welche Setlist uns am meisten mitreissen würde.

Was bedeutet für dich Musik?

Die einzige Medizin, die je gewirkt hat.

Welche Musik hörst du privat?

In meinem Berufsalltag bin ich von klassischer Musik umgeben, die ich sehr liebe. Privat höre ich dann vor allem Dark Wave, Aggrotech, Techno und Black Metal. Manchmal heimlich auch etwas linken Deutschrap. 🙂

Gibt es musikalische Vorbilder?

Auf jeden Fall haben mich Skinny Puppy und Sopor Aeternus auf allen künstlerischen Ebenen extrem geprägt. Ausserdem würde ich Suicide Commando, Diorama, Kae Tempest und Fever Ray definitiv als Vorbilder bezeichnen. Auch wenn sich die Musik sehr unterscheidet sind es unglaublich tolle Musiker*Innen, die eins mit ihrer Musik sind.

Was ist die wichtigste Musikequipment-Erfindung aller Zeiten-und warum?

Für mich persönlich der Vocoder, weil ich mit ihm wieder einen positiven Zugang zu meiner Stimme lernen und sie von einer geschlechtlichen Eindeutigkeit befreien konnte.

Erzähle von deiner schönsten oder schlimmsten Erfahrung auf der Bühne.

Bei einer Musical-Produktion ist ein schweres Bühnenelement sehr knapp neben einer Kollegin zusammengebrochen. Das war sicher das Schlimmste.

Menschen mit meiner Musik zu berühren und ihre Emotionen dabei zu spüren ist für mich das grösste Glück der Welt. Im Theater durfte ich viele schöne solcher Momente erleben. Nun kann ich nicht warten bald zum ersten mal unsere Songs vor Publikum zu spielen.

Gibt es Rituale vor der Show?

Mal schauen. In drei Wochen gibt es die erste. Jetzt wäre der Moment ein Ritual zu etablieren.

Was würdest du deinem 18-Jährigem Ich sagen?

Zwei Dinge: Geh ins Internetcafe und google Transgender. Und: hab keine Angst und mach Dein Ding

Hast du schlechte Angewohnheiten?

Ich bin nicht sehr geduldig und ich trinke massiv zuviel Kaffee. Eventuell besteht ein Zusammenhang.

Was machst du, wenn dich niemand sieht?

Schlafen oder Tanzen. Lachen oder Weinen. Leider zu oft scrollen.

Was ist der seltsamste Ort, an dem du jemals warst?

Das Internet. Ansonsten eine verfallene und besprayte Psychiatrie in Brandenburg und das Gaswerk in Augsburg.

Was bringt dich auf die Palme?

Ungerechtigkeiten, Diskriminierung und menschenverachtende Ideologien mitzubekommen. Sei es auf der Strasse oder in den Medien, da bin ich direkt auf 180.

Gibt es etwas, was Fans machen könnten, für dich als absolutes NoGo wäre?

Diskriminierendes oder übergriffiges Verhalten sind ein NoGo für mich.

Fannah oder doch lieber zurückgezogen?

Eine gute Mischung macht es aus. Ich liebe den Kontakt zu Menschen, brauche aber auch genug ruhige Momente für mich

• Ich will immer ans Meer, bin aber fast nie dort.
• Die Farbe grün beruhigt mich.

Introduce yourself / Band introduction

I have been publishing my songs under the name Susurration for 15 years.
For about one and a half years now, a band has formed from this. We are a hungry industrial metal band from Zurich that wants to take off without compromise, both musically and in terms of content.

When and how did you get into music?

When I was 14, I was invited to join the youth choir as part of my confirmation classes. I fell head over heels in love with making music. Then I very quickly started trying out all sorts of musical things and recorded my first songs with an acoustic guitar and a small computer microphone. Luckily, I met a special person in this choir who took me to my first goth party.

Do you make a full-time living from music? If not, what is your profession?

Yes and no – I studied film music and music theory. I now earn my living by teaching music theory at a music college and composing music for theater projects on a freelance basis.

How is a song created? First the melody, or first the lyrics?

Lyrical and musical ideas usually arise independently of each other in the strangest situations. These fragments then come together in a long process – first alone on the computer and then in the studio with the input of others until finally the whole song is there.

What is your source of inspiration?

Life in all its diversity inspires me every day. Stories, experiences and encounters are the basis of many creative processes. Taking in the full spectrum from mountain hikes to basement club raves stimulates my musical imagination. Films and contemporary visual art are also extremely inspiring for me – preferably the darkest corners of these forms of expression, of course.

What criteria are used to put together the setlist?

According to an exciting musical dramaturgy and a certain central theme. We think about which setlist would get us the most excited.

What does music mean to you?

The only medicine that has ever worked.

What music do you listen to in your private life?

In my professional life, I’m surrounded by classical music, which I love very much. In my private life, I mainly listen to dark wave, aggrotech, techno and black metal. Sometimes I also secretly listen to some left-wing German rap. 🙂

Do you have any musical role models?

Skinny Puppy and Sopor Aeternus have definitely influenced me on all artistic levels. I would also definitely describe Suicide Commando, Diorama, Kae Tempest and Fever Ray as role models. Even though the music is very different, they are incredibly great musicians who are one with their music.

What is the most important music equipment invention of all time and why?

For me personally, the vocoder, because with it I was able to learn a positive approach to my voice again and free it from gender ambiguity.

Tell us about your best or worst experience on stage.

During a musical production, a heavy stage element collapsed very close to a colleague. That was definitely the worst.

Touching people with my music and feeling their emotions is the greatest happiness in the world for me. I was able to experience many wonderful moments like that in the theater. Now I can’t wait to play our songs in front of an audience for the first time soon.

Are there any rituals before the show?

Let’s see. The first one is in three weeks. Now would be the time to establish a ritual.

What would you tell your 18-year-old self?

Two things: go to the internet cafe and google transgender. And: don’t be afraid and do your thing

Do you have any bad habits?

I’m not very patient and I drink way too much coffee. There may be a connection.

What do you do when no one sees you?

Sleeping or dancing. Laughing or crying. Scrolling too often, unfortunately.

What’s the strangest place you’ve ever been?

The internet. Other than that, a dilapidated and spray-painted psychiatric ward in Brandenburg and the Gaswerk in Augsburg.

What drives you up the wall?

Witnessing injustice, discrimination and inhuman ideologies. Whether it’s on the street or in the media, I’m immediately at 180.

Is there anything that fans could do that would be an absolute no-go for you?

Discriminatory or abusive behavior is a no-go for me.

Fannish or rather withdrawn?

It’s all about a good mix. I love contact with people, but I also need enough quiet moments for myself

• I always want to go to the sea, but I’m hardly ever there.
• The color green calms me down.
• I often use food as an excuse to consume chilli sauce.
