Ich bin Gründungsmitglied der Dark Electro/EBM/Industrial-Band Zwaremachine (USA), Solokünstler als Mach FoX und Sänger für Kollaborationen in vielen Genres mit Musikproduzenten aus aller Welt. Ich bin auch Videokünstler/VJ und lebe in Minneapolis, MN. USA.

Wann und wie bist du zur Musik gekommen?

Ich bin damit aufgewachsen, Radio zu hören und hatte eine tiefe Verbindung zur Musik, wie viele von uns. Als ich die Plattensammlung meines Vaters fand, fing ich an, die Liner Notes und Credits zu lesen und hörte mir alles mit offenem Geist und Ohr an. Als Teenager begeisterte ich mich für Punkmusik, und dieser Geist der Rebellion und des Selbermachens inspirierte mich dazu, meine ersten Bands zu gründen. In meiner Stadt gab es Community- und College-Radiosender, die mich in die Welt der Underground- und Alternativmusik einführten, und das war genau der Ort, an dem ich musikalisch sein wollte, also lernte ich weiter Gitarre, schrieb Songs und spielte in Bands. Bevor ich viel über Drumcomputer und Synthesizer wusste, fühlte ich mich schon zu diesen Klängen hingezogen, und das hat mich dahin geführt, wo ich jetzt mit der Art von Musik bin, die ich veröffentliche.

Wie entsteht ein Song? Zuerst die Melodie, dann der Text?

Wenn ich Musik produziere, kommen die Texte in der Regel als letztes hinzu. Ich schreibe und sequenziere die Musik normalerweise auf Hardware-Instrumenten und arrangiere und produziere sie dann zusätzlich in der DAW mit Cubase. Wenn ich mit anderen Musikproduzenten zusammenarbeite und Gesang und zusätzliche Instrumente hinzufüge, gibt es normalerweise Stems oder Submixes und eine Stereospur, die ich bearbeiten und arrangieren kann, damit sie zu meiner Gesangsproduktion passt.

Was bedeutet Musik für dich?

Musik zu machen beschäftigt mich und hält mich bei der Stange. Es ist eine endlose Quelle des Vergnügens und des Experimentierens, während das Hören von Musik immer eine Flucht und eine Inspirationsquelle für meine Arbeit war.

• Mein Haupt-/Erstinstrument war die Gitarre, und ich habe mit vielen Punk-/Alternative-Bands gespielt und getourt.
• Ich bin Videokünstler/VJ und arbeite mit schaltungsgebundener Hardware, Software und modularer Videosynthese, um Bilder zu erstellen.
• Der Grund, warum ich Zwaremachine gegründet habe, sind audiovisuelle Live-Performances.
• Ich bin ein Fan von Horror und Science Fiction.
• Hardware-Sequenzer und Drumcomputer gehören zu meinen besten Freunden.

Was möchtet ihr euren Fans noch sagen?

Anfang 2023 gibt es 2 neue Mach FoX Kollaborationsveröffentlichungen über Bandcamp!

Freitag, den 6. Januar 2023 veröffentlichen wir die neue Synthwave-Kollaboration “Maroco & Mach FoX – Now Beginning(single)”.

Am Freitag, den 3. Februar 2023 wird eine brandneue EP von “Mach FoX & Zeven Odd Gods” veröffentlicht. Die Ebm/Techno-Single und der Titeltrack “A Sickness” wurde im Dezember veröffentlicht.

Introduce yourself briefly

I am the founding member of dark electro/ebm/industrial band Zwaremachine(USA),solo artist as Mach FoX and vocalist for collaborations in many genres with music producers from around the world. I am also a video artist/VJ who lives in Minneapolis, MN. USA.

When and how did you get into music?

I grew up listening to radio and having a deep connection to music as many of us do. When I found my fathers record collection I began to read the liner notes and credits and would listen to anything with an open mind and ear. In my teens I was into punk music and that spirit of rebellion and DIY inspired me to start my first bands. There were community and college radio stations in my city that introduced me to the world of underground and alternative music and that felt like the place I wanted to be musically so I continued to learn guitar, write songs and play in bands. Before I knew much about drum machines and synthesizers I was already drawn to those sounds and that lead me to where I am now with the type of music I release.

How is a song created? First the melody, then the lyrics?

Lyrics usually tend to be the last thing that is added when I produce music.I usually write and sequence the music on hardware instruments and then follow with arrangement and additional production in the DAW using cubase. When I am collaborating with other music producers and adding vocals and additional instruments there are usually stems or submixes   and a stereo track that I can edit and arrange to suit my vocal production.

What does music mean to you?

Making music keeps my mind occupied and focused on the task. It has been an endless source of pleasure and experimentation, while listening to music has always been an escape and source of inspiration to create.

• My main/first instrument was guitar and I played and toured with many punk/alternative bands.
• I am a video artist/VJ working with circuit bent hardware,software and modular video synthesis to create visuals.
• The reason I started Zwaremachine was for live audio-visual performances.
• I am a fan of horror/sci fi.
• Hardware sequencers and drum machines are some of my best friends.

We are planning to release our third full-length Zwaremachine album in 2023 so keep an eye out for that announcement and also check out the solo Mach FoX releases and collaborations which cover many genres.
