Stelle dich kurz vor / Bandvorstellung

Yu: HER OWN WORLD ist eine explosive Mischung aus Industrial Rock/Gothic und Elektro. Die Bandmitglieder sind Yu – Gesang, ad-x – Synthesizer, Shai – Gitarren und Louve – Performer.

Unsere Live-Show besteht nicht nur aus Elektronik gemischt mit Gitarrenriffs, sondern auch aus einem visuellen Akt mit Feuer/LEDs, der durch das charakteristische Timbre des weiblichen Gesangs ergänzt wird.

Wir sind bereits auf großen Festivals aufgetreten (z.B. Castle Party Festival PL, Prague Gothic Treffen CZ, Schattenwelt Festival AU, European Dark Dance Treffen DE, u.a.) und haben viele kleinere Clubkonzerte gespielt.

Wir veröffentlichen Musik unter dem deutschen Label ‚darkTunes‘. Im Juni 2023 haben wir unser Debütalbum „Tales from Another Life“ veröffentlicht.

Wann und wie seid ihr zur Musik gekommen?

Yu: Das kann ich nicht sagen, denn Musik war schon immer ein großer Teil meines Lebens, seit meiner Kindheit. Aber ich habe sie ernster genommen, als ich diese Band gründete (das war vor etwa 5 Jahren).

ad-x: Als ich 8 Jahre alt war, bekam ich meine ersten Casio-Keyboards zum Geburtstag geschenkt. Ich habe einige Jahre lang gelernt, darauf zu spielen, aber als ich auf die High School ging, verliebte ich mich in die Bassgitarre, die ich kaufte und drei Jahre lang spielte. Im Jahr 2003 entdeckte ich durch einen Freund (Metalhead) die Dark Electro / Industrial Szene. Wie man sich denken kann, endete meine Liebe zur Bassgitarre schnell und ich kehrte zu den Keyboards zurück.

Lebst du hauptberuflich von der Musik? Wenn nicht, was ist dein Beruf?

Yu: Das ist der Traum einer jeden neuen Band, hehe. Leider noch nicht, aber ich hoffe, dass ich in Zukunft als Vollprofi nur mit Musik arbeiten kann. Im Moment arbeite ich als freiberuflicher Grafikdesigner.

ad-x: Wir haben normale Vollzeitjobs, also ist die Musik unsere Leidenschaft, aber in der Zukunft, wenn es eine Möglichkeit gibt, von der Musik zu leben, werde ich wahrscheinlich meine Denkweise und mein Leben ändern 🙂 Ich arbeite als QA-Ingenieur.

Wie entsteht ein Song? Zuerst die Melodie, oder zuerst der Text?

Yu: Oh, das ist wirklich bei jedem Song anders. Manchmal haben wir einen Text und eine Melodie, manchmal nur die Musik und ich schreibe den Text zur Komposition.

ad-x: Ich mache zuerst die Melodie, die Rohspur, die Gitarren und den Gesang. Wenn alles gut ist, stellen wir es auf „fertig“. Wenn nicht, nehmen wir ein paar Änderungen vor und polieren es zu einem fertigen Track.

Was ist eure Inspirationsquelle?

Yu: Wenn ich meine Texte schreibe, sind meine Hauptinspirationen Geschichten, die ich gehört habe, mein persönliches Leben und meine Gedanken, sowie Filme und Fantasiewelten (Vampire, Dämonen, etc.)

Nach welchen Kriterien wird die Setlist zusammengestellt?

Yu: Da gibt es ein paar. Erstens – für das beste Bühnenintro, das wir machen können, zweitens – die Stücke so mischen, dass sich unsere Tänzerin zwischen den Auftritten ein wenig ausruhen kann, drittens – langsamere und schnellere Songs mischen, um ein Gleichgewicht zu erreichen, viertens – ein starkes Konzertende mit dem kraftvollsten und melodischsten Song machen.

Was bedeutet Musik für euch?

Yu: Buchstäblich alles! (nach meinem Mann, meiner Familie und meinen Freunden natürlich 🙂 )

ad-x: Musik ist eine Therapie und eine Pause vom Alltag und der Arbeit.

Welche Musik hörst du privat?

Yu: Hauptsächlich Musik aus der Gothic-Szene wie Dark Electro, Industrial, Gothic Rock, Metal und verschiedene Volksmusik (Metal und Elektronik).
Ich höre auch gerne progressive Trance und Jazz/Swing-Klassiker. Ich weiß, das ist eine ganz schöne Mischung, haha. Ich höre gerne verschiedene Arten von Musik. Ich versuche, für neue Klänge offen zu bleiben. Aber trotzdem kann ich Hip-Hop/Rap, Reggae und schlagerähnliche Stile nicht ausstehen.

ad-x: Von „gutem“ Pop, 80er Jahre, über Dark Electro, Industrial und Gothic bis hin zur Black Metal Szene.

Gibt es musikalische Vorbilder?

Yu: Ich habe keins. Ich bewundere einfach starke Frauen aus der Goth/Metal/Electro-Szene mit schönen Stimmen. Ich schätze auch Leute, die ein Herz für eingängige Melodien haben.

ad-x: Wie ich bereits erwähnt habe, lasse ich mich von verschiedenen Musikrichtungen inspirieren und konzentriere mich nicht nur auf eine davon. Ich möchte, dass die Musik für jeden zugänglich ist, unabhängig davon, ob er ein typischer Goth oder Metalhead ist. Für mich ist Musik ein künstlerischer Ausdruck, und ich möchte, dass das Publikum mit uns an dieser „Reise“ teilnimmt, ohne sich auf ein bestimmtes Genre zu beschränken, daher der Name der Band 🙂

Was möchtet ihr euren Fans noch mitteilen?

Yu: Wir bereiten viele coole Dinge vor – neue Songs, neues Merch und eine neue Bühnenshow, also bleibt dran!

Introduce yourself briefly / band introduction

Yu: HER OWN WORLD is an explosive mix of industrial rock/gothic and electro. Band members are Yu – vocals, ad-x – synths, Shai – guitars, and Louve – performer. 

Our live show is not only electronics mixed with guitar riffs but also a visual act with fire/LEDs, which is complemented by the characteristic timbre of female vocals.

We have already performed at big festivals (like Castle Party Festival PL, Prague Gothic Treffen CZ, Schattenwelt Festival AU, European Dark Dance Treffen DE, and more) and we have played many smaller club concerts. 

We release music under the German label ‚darkTunes‘. In June 2023 we released our debut album „Tales from Another Life“ 

When and how did you come to music?

Yu: I can’t say when because music has always been a big part of my life since childhood. But I took it more seriously along with creating this band (which was about 5 years ago).

ad-x: When I was 8 I got my first Casio keys as a birthday present. I learned to play them for several years, but when I went to high school I fell in love with the bass guitar, which I bought and played for three years. In 2003 I discovered through a friend (metalhead) the dark electro / industrial scene. As you can deduce my love for bass guitar quickly ended and I returned to keyboards.

Do you live from music full-time? If not, what is your profession?

Yu: It is a dream of every fresh band, hehe. Unfortunately not yet, but I hope to go full pro with only music in the future. For now, I work as a freelance graphic designer.

ad-x: We have normal full-time jobs so music is our passion but in the future, if there is a possibility to live from creating the music I’ll probably change my mindset and life 🙂 I am working as a QA Engineer.

How is a song created? First the melody, or first the lyrics?

Yu: Oh really it is different with every song. Sometimes we have some lyrics and melody, and sometimes only music and I write the lyrics to the composition. 

ad-x: I’m creating first the melody, raw track, guitars, and vocals. If everything is good we set it to “done”. If not we make some changes and polish it to a full-ended track.

What is your source of inspiration?

Yu: When I write my lyrics my main inspirations are stories that I overheard, my personal life, and my thoughts, as well as movies and fantasy worlds (vampires, demons, etc.)

According to which criteria is the setlist put together?

Yu: There are a few. First – for best stage intro we can make, second – mix tracks in a way our dancer can rest a bit between stage appearances, third – mix slower and faster songs to achieve balance, fourth – make a strong concert ending with the most powerful and melodic song.  

What does music mean to you?

Yu: Literally, everything! (after my husband, family, and friends ofc 🙂 )

ad-x: Music is therapy and a break from the everyday routine of life and work.

What music do you listen to privately?

Yu: Mostly music from the goth scene like dark electro, industrial, gothic rock, metal, and different folk music (metal and electronic).
I also enjoy listening to progressive trance, and jazz/swing classics. I know it is quite a mix, haha. I like to listen to different types of music. I’m trying to stay open to new sounds. But still, I can’t stand hip-hop/rap, reggae, and styles similar to ‘schlager’.

ad-x: From “good” pop, 80s, through dark electro, industrial, and goth to the black metal scene.

Are there any musical role models?

Yu: I do not have one. I just admire powerful women from the goth/metal/electro scene with beautiful voices. I also appreciate people who have a heart for catchy melodies.

ad-x: As I mentioned earlier, I’m taking inspiration from various musical genres and do not focus on just one of them. I want the music to be accessible to everyone, regardless of whether they are a typical goth or metalhead. For me, music is an artistic expression and I want the audience to participate with us in this „journey“ without limiting themselves to a specific genre, hence the name of the band 🙂

Yu: My zodiac sign is Libra / My other passions are traveling and video gaming / I love cats and I am myself a cat mum / My favorite colors are black and red / I am vegetarian.
