Stellt euch kurz vor / Bandvorstellung

Wir sind ein italienisches Dark-Electro-Duo: Marco Katatronik (Gesang & Texte) und Stefano Mannequinetik (Synths & Musik). Wir haben 2008 mit Aggrotech und harschen EBM-Elementen angefangen, fast nur zum Spaß, aber dann haben wir zwischen 2013 und 2015 ein Demo (WAIT/HATE), ein Full-Length-Konzeptalbum (CRASHDOWN CONNECTED) und eine E.P. (MEDS) selbst veröffentlicht, die viele begeisterte Kritiken erhielten.

2015 unterschrieben wir beim russischen Label SkyQode und veröffentlichten die E.P. HATE & PSYCHE (2015), das danteske Konzeptalbum THE ABYSS EFFECT (2016) und eine weitere E.P. THIS IS GONNA HURT (2017), die unseren Musikstil in Richtung Dark-Electro und Industrial erweitert. 2018 unterschrieben wir bei dem renommierten Label Alfa Matrix, das im selben Jahr die E.P. MIRROR TERROR (mit unserem ersten Videoclip zum Titeltrack) veröffentlichte. 2019 veröffentlichten wir das Konzeptalbum über Wahnsinn mit dem Titel IN PRAISE OF FOLLY und 2020 schlossen wir die Trilogie mit der E.P. VIVA INSANITY (ebenfalls mit einem weiteren Videoclip) ab: Die Einflüsse erweitern sich noch mehr um Futurepop und Goth, wodurch ein einzigartiger Sound entsteht.
Im Jahr 2022 starteten wir mit einer neuen E.P. und einem großen Videoclip SILVERTONGUE (feat. Aesthetic Perfection) neu durch, ein Jahr später folgte die E.P. und das Video zu GOD IN VITRO, das die Türen für das kommende neue Konzeptalbum über einen synthetischen Messias namens ANTI öffnete, das am 19.4.2024 zusammen mit dem Videoclip zur nächsten Single THE LAST DYING FLAME (feat. Chris Harms) veröffentlicht wurde.

Wann und wie seid ihr zur Musik gekommen?

Marco und Stefano haben vor Synapsyche in vielen Bands zusammen gespielt, seit 2004, zuerst in einer italienischen Rockband (Zona Traffico Libero) und dann in einer Metalcore-Band (Ultima Necat). Marco hat schon als Kind angefangen zu singen und Rockgesang studiert, und Stefano hat nach Jahren des Konservatoriums Klavier, Bassgitarre und sogar Schlagzeug und Geige gespielt.

Lebt ihr hauptberuflich von der Musik? Wenn nein, was ist euer Beruf?

Nein, wir leben nicht von der Musik. Eigentlich ist das fast unmöglich, vor allem bei unserem Musikstil (der im Vergleich zu anderen eine Nische ist und wenig Beachtung findet) und in unserem Herkunftsland, das Menschen und Bands beim Spielen und Aufnehmen von Musik nicht unterstützt. Marco ist Apotheker und Stefano ist Barmann. Wie auch immer, unsere Jobs wirken sich nicht so sehr auf unsere Kreativität aus, wir haben genug Zeit, um auch Songs zu schreiben und zu komponieren.

Wie entsteht ein Lied? Zuerst die Melodie, oder zuerst der Text?

Wir schreiben gleichzeitig. Während Stefano einige Melodien komponiert, schreibt Marco Zeilen, Reime und das Konzept für die nächsten Songs. Wenn Stefano seine Teile für einen Song (oder manchmal einen halben Song) fertig hat, schickt er seine Ideen an Marco: Er passt dann einige seiner Texte an und das Grundgerüst des Songs ist fertig. Ein paar Anpassungen und Marco ist bereit, seinen Gesang in Stefanos Studios aufzunehmen. Hier beginnt der Mix, und wenn die ganze Band zufrieden ist, schicken wir alles zum Mastering.

Was ist eure Inspirationsquelle?

Marco sieht sich viele schräge und verzwickte Filme und Serien an (seine Favoriten sind die Filme von Lynch, Von Trier, Aronofsky, Nolan, und die deutschen Serien DARK und TWIN PEAKS), liest viele Bücher (vor allem klassische, dunkle, Sci-Fi und Krimis) und findet darin Inspiration. Musik ist natürlich für beide grundlegend: von Elektro über Metal bis hin zu Klassik, aber auch Pop und alternative Sachen.

Nach welchen Kriterien wird die Setlist zusammengestellt?

Die Live-Setlist muss die perfekte Kombination sein, damit die Leute unsere Songs auf höchstem Niveau genießen können. Deshalb beginnen wir normalerweise mit einem knallharten Song, der die Leute von Anfang an zum Springen und Tanzen bringt, dann wechseln wir von älteren zu neueren Liedern und schließlich zu den Hits, die die Mehrheit des Publikums kennt.

Was bedeutet Musik für euch?

Musik ist alles für uns. Selbst wenn wir alt sind, wird die Musik ein Teil unseres Herzens und unseres Lebens sein. Sie ist das, was uns am Laufen hält, was uns in schlechten Zeiten hilft und uns in guten Zeiten begleitet. Überall, wo wir sind oder hingehen, begleitet uns die Musik. Wir leben sozusagen in Harmonie und in Symbiose mit ihr.

Welche Musik hört ihr privat?

Stefano ist der Elektro-Kopf der Band, und seine Lieblingsbands sind Grendel, Aesthetic Perfection, VNV Nation. Er liebt auch Metal, Punk (Post und Rock) und klassische Musik (sein Lieblingskomponist ist Bach). Marco ist ein Metalhead und liebt Cradle Of Filth, In Flames, Nightwish, Lord Of The Lost, aber auch Rockbands wie HIM, Smashing Pumpkins, Muse, Placebo, elektronische Musik wie Depeche Mode und sogar Pop (vor allem Lady Gaga und Michael Jackson).

Gibt es musikalische Vorbilder?

Marco begann zu singen, indem er Michael Jackson imitierte und davon träumte, wie dieser zu sein, dann auch andere große Künstler wie Freddie Mercury und Axl Rose. Er wollte immer ein Rockstar sein, sozusagen. Stefano zog es immer vor, hinter den Kulissen zu bleiben und nicht aufzufallen. Er hat also kein wirkliches Vorbild auf der Bühne, sondern eher als Komponist (und hier kommen wir wieder zu den großen Acts, von Depeche Mode bis The Cure und sogar klassischen Komponisten).

Fünf Fakten über dich

Stefano ist ein Pessimist und beklagt sich ständig. Wenn er nicht arbeitet oder komponiert, geht er gerne mit Freunden in die Kneipe, um seine Unzufriedenheit zu äußern. Aber er ist auch ein sehr hilfsbereiter und kreativer Mensch: Marcos Mikrofonständer mit 100 Kabelbindern ist zum Beispiel seine Erfindung. Marco hat Lampenfieber und trinkt immer eine Menge Alkohol, bevor er auf die Bühne geht. Außerdem liebt er dunkle und gruftige Dinge und hat ein Haus voller solcher Gegenstände. Wir lieben beide Tiere, vor allem Katzen: sowohl Marco als auch Stefano haben 2 Katzen!

Unterstützen, unterstützen, unterstützen: ohne das ist es sehr schwierig, sich im Musikgeschäft über Wasser zu halten. Introduce yourself briefly / band introduction

We are an italian dark-electro duo: Marco Katatronik (vocals & lyrics) and Stefano Mannequinetik (synths & music). We started with aggrotech and harsh EBM features in 2008, almost for fun, but then between 2013 and 2015 we self-released a demo (WAIT/HATE), a full-length concept album (CRASHDOWN CONNECTED) and an E.P. (MEDS) which gained many enthusiastic reviews.

In 2015 we signed for the russian label SkyQode and release the E.P. HATE & PSYCHE (2015), the dantesque concept album THE ABYSS EFFECT (2016) and another E.P. THIS IS GONNA HURT (2017), spreading our musical style into dark-electro and industrial. In 2018 we signed for the famous label Alfa Matrix, that released the same year the E.P. MIRROR TERROR (with our first videoclip of the title-track). In 2019 we released the concept full-length album about madness entitled IN PRAISE OF FOLLY and 2020 we completed the trilogy with the E.P. VIVA INSANITY (also accompanied with another videoclip): The influences expand even more with futurepop and goth, creating a unique sound.
In 2022 we restarted with a new E.P. and a huge videoclip SILVERTONGUE (feat. Aesthetic Perfection), followed the year later with E.P. and video of GOD IN VITRO, opening the doors for the upcoming new concept album about a synthetic messiah called ANTI, released 19.4.2024 together with the videoclip of the next single THE LAST DYING FLAME (feat. Chris Harms).

When and how did you come to music?

Marco and Stefano plays together in many bands before Synapsyche, since 2004, first in an italian rock band (Zona Traffico Libero) and then in a metalcore band (Ultima Necat). Marco started to sing when he was a child and studying rock vocals, and Stefano the same playing piano, bass guitar and even drums and violin after years of conservatory.

Do you live from music full-time? If no, what is your profession?

No, we don’t live of music. Actually it’s almost impossible, especially for our music style (that is niche and little followed compared to others) and our country of origin, which doesn’t support people and bands in playing and recording music. Marco is a pharmacist and Stefano a barman. Anyway our jobs don’t affect so much on our creativity, we have enough time to write and compose songs too.

How is a song created? First the melody, or first the lyrics?

We write simultaneously. While Stefano composes some melodies, Marco writes lines, rhymes and the concept for the next songs. When Stefano finished his parts for a song (or half a song sometimes), he sends his ideas to Marco: he then adapts some of his lyrics and the song’s basic skeleton is done. Few adjustments and Marco is ready to record his vocals at Stefano’s studios. Here the mix starts, and when it satisfies the whole band we send everything to master.

What is your source of inspiration?

Marco watches lots of weird and tricky movies and series (his favourites are the movies of Lynch, Von Trier, Aronofsky, Nolan, and the german series DARK and TWIN PEAKS), read many books (especially classic, dark, sci-fi and crime) and he finds inspiration in there. Music of course for both is fundamental: from electro to metal and classical, but also pop and alternative stuff.

According to which criteria is the setlist put together?

Live setlist must be the perfect combination to make people enjoy our songs at the top level. So we usually start with a banger heavy one to make people jump and dance from the beginning, then we range from older to newer songs, and in the end the hit songs that are known by the majority of the audience.

What does music mean to you?

Music is everything to us. Even when we will be old, music will be a part of our heart and of our lives. It’s the thing that keeps us going, that helps in our bad times and join us in the good times. Everywhere we are or we go, there is music with us. We kinda live in harmony and in symbiosis with it.

What music do you listen to privately?

Stefano is the electro-head of the band, and his favourite bands are Grendel, Aesthetic Perfection, VNV Nation. He also love some metal, punk (post and rock) and classical music (his favourite composer is Bach). Marco is a metalhead and he loves Cradle Of Filth, In Flames, Nightwish, Lord Of The Lost, but also rock bands as HIM, Smashing Pumpkins, Muse, Placebo, electronic music as Depeche Mode and even pop (Lady Gaga and Michael Jackson over all).

Are there any musical role models?

Marco started to sing imitating and dreaming to be like Michael Jackson, then also other great performers as Freddie Mercury and Axl Rose. He always wanted to be a rockstar, so to speak. Stefano always prefered to remain behind the scenes and to non be exposed. So he has no real role model on the stage, but more as composer (and here we return to the big acts, from Depeche Mode to The Cure and even classical composers).

Five facts about you

Stefano is a pessimist and complains all the time, so when he’s not working or composing he likes to go to pub with friends to express all his discontent. But he’s also a very helpful person and creative: Marco’s mic stand with 100 cable ties has been his invention, for example. Marco has stage fright and always drinks a lot of alcohol before hitting the stage. He also loves dark and goth fancy goods and he has a house full of those objects. We both love animals but especially cats: both Marco and Stefano has 2 cats!

What else would you like to tell your fans?

Support support support: without it, it’s very difficult to stay afloat in the music business. Purchase and listen our music (digital and especially CDs), buy our merch at our webstore, help us to play live and especially come to the shows!
