Hi, mein Name ist Florian Grey und ich singe und schreibe Songs in der gleichnamigen Band.
An der Gitarre findet findet ihr Von Marengo, der auch Banking Vocals macht.
Live Am Bass ist Simon Zlotos, der auch gleichzeitig auch Pianist und Keyboarder ist.
Unser Genre bezeichnen wir als Alternative Dark Rock

Wann und wie bist du zur Musik gekommen?

Das war schon im Kindesalter, ich habe viel gesungen und habe mich damals nicht getraut aufzutreten, Als Teenie hatte ich meine ersten Bands, habe erste Songs geschrieben und später eine Gesangsausbildung und Schauspiel studiert.

Lebst du von der Musik hauptberuflich? Wenn Nein, welchen Beruf übst du aus?

Ich arbeite als freier Texter für andere Künstler, als Sprecher für Werbung, Hörspiele etc. und Moderator/Musik „Journalist” (früher nannte man das VJ) für ein grosses Szene und Gothic Magazin (Sonic Seducer) und darf hier Künstler, Bands und Beiträge aller Art machen und führen.

Wie entsteht ein Song? Erst die Melodie, oder erst der Text?

Beim Songwriting gibt es festen keine Schemata. Inspiration kommt, so ist es jedenfalls bei mir, unregelmässig aber dann lasse ich meiner Kreativität freien Lauf. Es kann zu erst eine Gesangsmelodie sein, aus der dann ein Stück entsteht. Oftmals kommt es auch vor dass zu erst ein Instrumental geschrieben wird, auf das ich dann die Gesangsmelodien und die Lyrics schreibe. Oder aber man schreibt zusammen und jammt.

Was ist deine Inspirationsquelle?

Das können viele Dinge sein, persönliche Erfahrungen, Herzschmerz und emotionale Ereignisse im Leben. Musik im allgemeinen inspiriert mich, Bücher und Geschichten aus meinem Umfeld. Ich lasse mich dann immer treiben und tauche in diese Inspiration ein und schmücke sie mit meinen Empfindungen aus.

Nach welchen Kriterien wird die Setlist zusammengestellt?

Wir stellen unsere Setlist so zusammen:
Jeder schmeisst Ideen in einen Pott, dann schauen wir welche Stücke zusammenpassen und wann, Gitarren- oder Basswechsel bzw. diese umgestimmt werden müssen. Es ist ein total durcheinander, wenn man nach jedem Song umstimmen oder wechseln muss. Wir abreiten hier in dreier oder vierer Blocks. Ich für meinen Teil habe gerne am Ende nochmal einen schnellen und dann einen langsamen Song, um das Publikum noch etwas aufzumischen. (Lacht)

Was bedeutet für dich Musik?

Selbstheilung, Freude, Ausdruck und künstlerische Freiheit. Sie bedeutet mir also sehr viel. Wenn ich also mit dem, was ich schreibe und meine Welt zeige, noch Leute bewege und Hörer mit auf eine musikalische Reise durch das Herz und den Kopf mitnehmen kann, ist das sein sehr schönes Gefühl.

Welche Musik hörst ihr privat?

Ich spreche jetzt mal für alle in der Band und sage das reicht bei Von Marengo von Metal, Rock, Alternative Rock bis zur Klassik und Italienischer Volksmusik.
Bei Simon ist es Metal, Rock, Gothic Rock/Metal bis einige Pop-Stücke.
Mein Geschmack ist ein Querschnitt aus den bereits genannten, allerdings kommt noch Alternative, teilweise Indie und Gothic Metal und ein paar Black Metal und Death Metal Stücke hinzu.

Gibt es musikalische Vorbilder?

Die gäbe es als wir jünger waren und unsere Bilder auf dem Speicher noch nicht für uns alterten…(lacht)
Es gibt immer Vorbilder, ich kann bei Von Marengo zum Beispiel Chris Cornell und Jeff Buckley nennen. Bei mir sind es früher Bon Jovi, Black Sabbath, Iggy Pop, Edgar Allan Poe und ein deutscher Künstler namens Laith Al-Deen gewesen.
Bei Simon sind es klassische Komponisten, aufgrund der Tatsache, dass er klassische Musik und Klavier studiert hat.

Über die Band kann ich sagen:
Ehrlich/Hingebungsvoll/Freundschaft/Talentiert und… das trifft eher auf mich zu: Die Geduld ist nicht unbedingt eine meiner Stärken… (Lacht)

Wir hoffen dass euch unser neues Album Destroying Kingdoms genauso gut gefällt wie uns und hoffen dass wir euch bald bei den kommenden Live – Dates sehen werden, um uns für euch das Herz aus der Brust zu spielen.

Introduce yourself / Band introduction

Hi, my name is Florian Grey and I sing and write songs in the band of the same name.
On guitar you will find Von Marengo, who also does banking vocals.
Live On Bass is Simon Zlotos, who is also a pianist and keyboardist.

When and how did you get into music?

That was already in childhood, I sang a lot and didn’t dare to perform at that time. As a teenager I had my first bands, wrote my first songs and later I studied singing and acting.

Do you live from music full-time? If no, what is your profession?

I work as a freelance lyricist for other artists, as a narrator for commercials, radio plays etc. and presenter/music “journalist” (used to be called VJ) for a big scene and gothic magazine (Sonic Seducer) and am allowed to do and lead artists, bands and contributions of all kinds.

How does a song come into being? First the melody, or first the lyrics?

In songwriting there are no fixed schemes. Inspiration comes, so it is at least with me, irregularly but then I let my creativity run free. It can be first a vocal melody, from which then a piece develops. Often it also happens that first an instrumental is written, on which I then write the vocal melodies and lyrics. Or we write together and jam.

What is your source of inspiration?

It can be many things, personal experiences, heartbreak and emotional events in life. Music in general inspires me, books and stories from my environment. I then always let myself drift and dive into this inspiration and embellish it with my feelings.

What criteria are used to put together the setlist?

We put our setlist together like this:
Everyone throws ideas into a pot, then we see which pieces fit together and when, guitar or bass changes or those need to be retuned. It’s a total mess if you have to retune or change after every song. We ride off in blocks of three or four here. I for one like to have another fast song at the end and then a slow song to mix up the audience a bit more. (Laughs)

What does music mean to you?

Self-healing, joy, expression and artistic freedom. So it means a lot to me. So if I can still move people with what I write and show my world and take listeners on a musical journey through the heart and head, that is his very nice feeling.

What music do you listen to privately?

I speak now for all in the band and say that ranges with Von Marengo from metal, rock, alternative rock to classical and Italian folk music.
With Simon it’s metal, rock, gothic rock/metal to some pop pieces.
My taste is a cross-section of the already mentioned, but alternative, partly indie and gothic metal and a few black metal and death metal pieces are added.

Are there any musical role models?

There would be when we were younger and our pictures in the attic didn’t age for us yet…(laughs).
There are always role models, I can name for example Chris Cornell and Jeff Buckley with Von Marengo. With me it used to be Bon Jovi, Black Sabbath, Iggy Pop, Edgar Allan Poe and a German artist called Laith Al-Deen.
With Simon, it’s classical composers, due to the fact that he studied classical music and piano.
