Wir sind TrainToSpain, eine Elektronik-Band, die Synthpop mit tiefgründigen Texten macht.
Wann und wie bist du zur Musik gekommen?
Ich wurde schon in der Schule Musiker. Ich habe angefangen, Flöte zu spielen. Und dann Saxophon.
Richtig zum Musiker wurde ich, als ich „Some Great Reward“ von Depeche Mode hörte.
Da war es mein Traum, Synth-Musik zu machen.
Lebt ihr hauptberuflich von der Musik? Wenn nein, was ist euer Beruf?
Mein Traum ist es, hauptberuflich mit Musik zu arbeiten. Aber im Moment ist es eher ein sehr ernsthaftes Hobby.
Ich bin Koch. Das bin ich schon seit über 30 Jahren.
Wie entsteht ein Song? Kommt zuerst die Melodie oder zuerst der Text?
Ich, Jonas, mache die Musik, dann schicke ich sie an Helena und sie schreibt den Text. Wenn der Song dann einen Text hat, ergänze ich ihn mit passenden Klängen.
Was ist deine Inspirationsquelle?
Ich würde sagen, im Grunde genommen ist es ABBA. Sie sind in gewisser Weise tatsächlich ziemlich elektronisch.
Und sie sind präsente Vorbilder. Da meine Eltern alle Platten hatten.
Und auch die Disco-Szene der 70er Jahre.
Und natürlich, wie so viele andere auch, Depeche Mode und all die Synthie-Bands der 80er, New Romantic und New-Wave-Bands.
Nach welchen Kriterien wird die Setlist zusammengestellt?
Wir haben nicht wirklich bestimmte Kriterien.
Wir wollen unseren Fans einfach etwas von unserer Musik bieten, damit sie Spaß daran haben.
In den Sets versuchen wir, eine Mischung aus Up-Tempo-Songs und einigen unserer langsameren Songs zu spielen.
Welche Musik hörst du privat?
Ich höre Reggae und bin außerdem ein großer Fan von Suede.
Gibt es musikalische Vorbilder?
Nicht wirklich. Ich versuche, ich selbst zu sein. Vielleicht schaue ich mir mal ein paar Live-Videos auf YouTube an, um zu sehen, wie andere Künstler auftreten. Aber ich würde sie nicht als Vorbilder bezeichnen.
Was sind die wichtigsten Innovationen im Bereich der Musikausrüstung aller Zeiten – und warum?
Ich würde sagen, all die verschiedenen DAWs (das sind die Programme, mit denen man
seine Musik produziert). Sie machen die Dinge sooo viel einfacher.
Erzähl uns von deiner besten oder schlimmsten Erfahrung auf der Bühne.
Ein betrunkener Tontechniker, der vergessen hatte, das Mikrofon auf die Bühne zu bringen.
Als Helena die Bühne betrat, gab es KEIN Mikrofon.
Gibt es irgendwelche Rituale vor der Show?
Wir machen immer ein „Before-Show-Foto“.
Was würdest du deinem 18-jährigen Ich sagen?
Fang JETZT SOFORT an, Musik zu machen!!!
Was machst du, wenn dich niemand sieht?
Ich singe.
Hast du irgendwelche schlechten Angewohnheiten?
Nicht wirklich. Ich würde nicht sagen, dass es eine schlechte Angewohnheit ist, alle möglichen Limonaden zu trinken.
Was war der seltsamste Ort, an dem du je warst?
Die Grenze in der Wüste zwischen Algerien und Tunesien.
Was bringt dich auf die Palme?
Alle Arten von Ungerechtigkeiten
Gibt es etwas, das Fans tun könnten, das für dich ein absolutes No-Go wäre?

Bist du nah an den Fans oder bleibst du lieber für dich?
Nah an den Fans. Es ist wichtig, ein gutes Verhältnis zu seinen Fans zu haben

Introduce yourself briefly / band introduction
We are TrainToSpain an electronic band making synthpop with lyrics with a depth
When and how did you come to music?
I became a musician back in school. Started play the flute. And then saxophone
I truly became a musician when I listened to Depeche Mode ”Some Great Reward”
Then my dream were to make synth music
Do you live from music full-time? If no, what is your profession?
My dream is to work full time with music. But at the moment it’s more like a very serious hobby
I´m a cook. Been that for over 30 years.
How is a song created? First the melody, or first the lyrics?
I Jonas makes the music, then I send it to Helena and she writes the lyrics. Then when there are lyrics on the song I fill it out with more fitting sounds
What is your source of inspiration?
I would say in the bottom it’s ABBA They are in fact pretty electronic in same ways.
And they are in the background. Since my parents hade all the records. And also the 70ties disco scene.
And of course like so many others Depeche Mode and all the 80ties synth acts, New Romantic, new wave acts
According to which criteria is the setlist put together?
We don’t really have a certain criteria. We just want to give our fans some of our music to enjoy.
In the sets we try to do a mix between uptempo songs and some of our slower songs
What music do you listen to privately?
I listen to reagge and I´m also a big fan of Suede
Are there any musical role models?
Not really. I try to be myself. Maybe I look over some live videos on YouTube to see how other artists perform. But I wouldn’t call them role models
What is the most important music equipment inovations of all time-and why?
I would like to say all the different DAW:s( It’s the programs you make
your music in.) It make things sooo much easier.
Tell us about your best or worst experience on stage.
A drunk sound engineer that forgot to bring the microphone on stage.
When Helena entered the stage. There was NO microphone
Are there any rituals before the show?
We always take a BeforeShowPicture
What would you say to your 18-year old self?
Start make music RIGHT NOW!!!
What do you do when no ones sees you?
I sing
Do you have any bad habits?
Not really. I wouldn’t say drinking all kinds of different soda beverages a bad habit.
What’s the strangest place you’ve ever been
The border in the desert between Algeria and Tunisia
What drives you up the wall?
All kinds of injustices
Is there anything that fans might do that would be an absolute no-go
for you?
Not really

Close to fans. It’s important to have a good relationship with your fans
