Numa Echos, eine vielseitige Künstlerin, bewegt sich zwischen Poesie, Literatur, Musik, Kino, Theater, Kunstfotografie und Malerei. Sie ist international als Art Director, Komponistin, Sängerin und Instrumentalistin tätig – mit eigenen Live-Shows, als Vorgruppe für andere national und international bekannte Künstler sowie als DJ.

Im Jahr 2016 veröffentlichte Numa Echos in Zusammenarbeit mit ihrem künstlerischen Produzenten und Arrangeur Filippo Scrimizzi ihr erstes offizielles Album „Shady World“ bei Valery Records – ein Projekt, das von Einflüssen aus Rock, Dark, Industrial, Trip-Hop, Metal und New Wave geprägt ist und in dem sie als Sängerin, Keyboarderin, Texterin und Mitkomponistin der Musik auftritt.

Das neue offizielle Album „Descending Consciousness“, das vollständig von Numa Echos und Filippo Scrimizzi im Sub 711 Studio in Mailand geschrieben und produziert wurde, behält zwar die charakteristischen Elemente der Produktionen von Numa Echos bei – die von Rock bis Dark, von Industrial bis Trip-Hop reichen und zwischen Metal und New Wave wechseln –, präsentiert sich jedoch in einer anmutigeren Form, die mehr Raum für Elektronik und Melodie lässt und so die dunklen und melancholischen Klänge betont, manchmal mit rasanten Rhythmen, sowie die Tiefe der Texte, die von der nächtlichen Welt von Numa Echos erzählen – der „Noir“-Welt, die sie umgibt, und einer fragwürdigen Gesellschaft, der es oft an ethischem und künstlerischem Gewissen mangelt und mit der sie in Konflikt geraten muss. Die LP enthält zehn bisher unveröffentlichte Titel, darunter ein Feature mit Red Zebra, einer historischen belgischen Post-Punk-Band, und deren Frontmann Peter Slabbynck.

„Descending Consciousness“ erscheint am 3. November 2023 beim führenden unabhängigen Alternative-Label Brasiliens „Wave Records“; der digitale Vertrieb erfolgt über DigDis und Believe Music in 240 Ländern, der physische Vertrieb über Audioglobe (weltweit) und Young & Cold (Deutschland).

Numa Echos ist seit Juni 2017 offizielles Mitglied der Band „Double Bass of Death“, einem Projekt mit Einflüssen aus Heavy Metal, Metalcore und Industrial, in dem sie das System hinterfragen. Die Band veröffentlichte zwei Alben, deren Videos auf besonderes Interesse stießen und auf dem „YouTube“-Kanal mehr als 300.000 Aufrufe erzielten.

Wann und wie bist du zur Musik gekommen?

Ich bin zur Musik gekommen wie das Wasser, das auf die eine oder andere Weise in den Himmel gelangt.

Lebst du hauptberuflich von der Musik? Wenn nein, was ist dein Beruf?

Ja, ich beschäftige mich mit Musik und anderen Kunstformen wie Literatur, Kino und Theater, übernehme aber auch organisatorische Aufgaben im Kunstbereich, denn mein Hauptziel ist es, Schönheit in all ihren Formen zu verbreiten.

Wie entsteht ein Lied? Kommt zuerst die Melodie oder zuerst der Text?

Um auf den Vergleich mit dem Wasser zurückzukommen: Meine Lieder fließen frei, sie strömen auf ungeordnete, aber konzentrierte Weise durch meinen Kopf, und ich gebe weder dem Text noch der Musik den Vorrang. Alles muss spontan entstehen, um die Zuhörer auf glaubwürdige Weise zu erreichen und sie zu bewegen oder zum Nachdenken anzuregen.

Was ist deine Inspirationsquelle?

Meine Inspirationsquelle ist alles um mich herum, das Konkrete und das Abstrakte, und das, was mich beunruhigt, mich zum Licht oder zur Dunkelheit, zur Freude oder zum Schmerz, zum Nachdenken und folglich zum Ringen führt.

Nach welchen Kriterien wird die Setlist zusammengestellt?

Die Setlist auf dem Album unterscheidet sich von der Live-Setlist. Auf dem Album folge ich einem klanglichen Kriterium und achte dabei besonders auf die Ausklingphasen und Intros der aufeinanderfolgenden Songs. Live beginne ich lieber mit dunkleren, entspannenderen Songs und gehe dann zu beschwingteren, tanzbaren Rhythmen über.

Was bedeutet Musik für dich?

Musik ist Leben und Tod, Leben im Tod, mein Alles und mein Nichts.

Welche Musik hörst du privat?

Ich höre je nach Situation und Stimmung jedes Musikgenre. Ich konzentriere mich nicht auf etwas Bestimmtes, aber ich bevorzuge dunkle Klänge und Schwingungen sowie Musik, die sich so definieren lässt.

Gibt es musikalische Vorbilder?

Sicherlich alle Vorbilder, die Schönheit, Emotionen und innere Tiefe unterstreichen.

Was ist die wichtigste Erfindung im Bereich der Musikausrüstung aller Zeiten – und warum?

Keine Ausrüstung lässt sich als besser oder schlechter bezeichnen. Alles steht im Dienst der Musik, die unvergleichlich ist. Wenn ich für irgendetwas dankbar sein müsste, dann für jedes Mittel, das es ermöglicht, Musik in die Zukunft zu tragen und unseren Nachkommen zu ermöglichen, sie zu erleben.

Gibt es Rituale vor der Show?

Jeder hat Rituale, sowohl eigene als auch gemeinsame. Das gehört zur Privatsphäre und kann mit niemandem geteilt werden.

Was würdest du deinem 18-jährigen Ich sagen?

Ich würde sagen: Träume nicht, sondern setze dir Ziele. Erwarte keine Schönheit, sondern staune, wenn du ihr begegnest. Nutze den Schmerz, um etwas zu schaffen, und nutze deine Tage voll aus, um das zu erreichen, was du dir vorgenommen hast. Kämpfe darum, Spuren zu hinterlassen, und lass diese Spuren zu einem Vorbild werden. Hab keine Vorbilder, denen du nacheifern musst, sondern baue dein eigenes Vorbild auf dir selbst auf.

Was machst du, wenn dich niemand sieht?

Ich beobachte mich selbst.

Hast du irgendwelche schlechten Angewohnheiten?

Wer kann schon beurteilen, was gute oder schlechte Angewohnheiten sind? Meine schlimmste Angewohnheit ist es, mich selbst und die Gesellschaft zu beobachten.

Was ist der seltsamste Ort, an dem du je gewesen bist?

Der seltsamste Ort, an dem ich je gewesen bin, ist mein Inneres. Es ist auch der verdammteste, unberechenbarste, überraschendste und erstaunlichste Ort. Vom Wasser aus gelangte ich immer wieder zu mir selbst, denn auch ich bin „Liquid“, wie die Protagonistin meines letzten Buches … „S-Heaven: sea of heaven“. Auf andere Weise „Liquid“.

Was treibt dich auf die Palme?

Es gibt insbesondere drei Dinge, die mich in den Wahnsinn treiben, die nicht ganz so heilige Dreifaltigkeit. Kunst, Liebe und Gleichgültigkeit.

Gibt es etwas, das Fans tun könnten, das für dich ein absolutes No-Go wäre? Bist du nah am Fan oder hältst du lieber Abstand?

Mangelnder Respekt … Respekt ist die Grundlage jeder menschlichen Interaktion. Ich liebe den Kontakt zu Fans, bis zu einem gewissen Punkt. Ich brauche aber auch lange, tiefe Momente der Einsamkeit.

Wie sollte ich mich auf diese Weise beschreiben können? Mich selbst zu beschreiben setzt eine unendliche Reise voraus, die über die Vergänglichkeit dieses Lebens hinausgeht.

Was möchtest du deinen Fans noch mitteilen?

Ich möchte sagen: Verschiebt nicht auf morgen, was ihr heute erleben könnt. Denn die Vergangenheit existiert nicht und die Zukunft existiert vielleicht auch nicht.

Numa Echos, polyartist, moves between poetry, literay, music, cinema, theatre, art photography and painting. She is internationally active as art director, composer, singer and instrumentalist with her own live shows, opening act shows for other nationally and internationally renowned artists and as Dj.

In 2016, in collaboration with her artistic producer and arranger Filippo Scrimizzi, Numa Echos released her first official album “Shady World” with Valery Records, a project characterized by rock, dark, industrial, trip-hop, metal and new wave influences, within which she is vocalist, keyboardist, lyricist and co-composer of the music.

The new official album “Descending Consciousness”, entirely written and produced by Numa Echos and Filippo Scrimizzi at Sub 711 Studio in Milan, while maintaining the characteristic elements of Numa Echos‘s productions ranging from rock to dark, from industrial to trip-hop trespassing between metal and new wave, are presented in a more graceful guise, leaving more space for electronics and melody, thus emphasizing the dark and melancholic sounds, sometimes with fast-paced rhythms, and the depth of the lyrics that tell the nocturnal world of Numa Echos, the “noir” world that surrounds her and a questionable society often lacking ethical and artistic conscience with which she has to clash. The Lp includes ten unreleased tracks including a featuring with Red Zebra, a historic Belgian post-punk band, and its exponent Peter Slabbynck.

Numa Echos is an official member since June 2017 of the band “Double Bass of Death,” a project with Heavy Metal, Metal Core and Industrial influences in which they question the system. When and how did you come to music?

I came to music like water, in one way or another, comes to the sky.

Do you live from music full-time? If no, what is your profession?

Yes, I deal with music and other art forms such as literature, cinema, and theater, but I also play an organizational role in the arts because my main goal is to spread beauty in all its forms.

How is a song created? First the melody, or first the lyrics?

Returning to the comparison with water, my songs flow freely, running through my mind in a disorderly but focused manner, and I don’t prioritize lyrics or music. Everything must arise spontaneously in order to reach the listeners in a credible way and move them or make them reflect.

What is your source of inspiration?

My source of inspiration is everything around me, the concrete and the abstract, and what disturbs me, leads me to light or darkness, joy or pain, reflection and consequently struggle.

According to which criteria is the setlist put together?

The album setlist differs from the live setlist. On the album, I follow a sound criterion, paying close attention to the endings and intros of the songs that follow one another. Live, I prefer to start with darker, more relaxing songs and then move on to more upbeat, danceable rhythms.

What does music mean to you?

Music is life and death, life in death, my everything and my nothing.

What music do you listen to privately?

I listen to any genre of music depending on the situation and my mood. I don’t focus on anything in particular, but I prefer dark sounds and vibrations and music that can be defined as such.

Are there any musical role models?

Certainly all models that enhance beauty, emotion, and inner depth.

What is the most important music equipment invetion of all time-and why? Tell us about your best or worst experience on stage.

No equipment can be defined as better or worse. Everything is at the service of music, which is unparalleled. If I had to be grateful for anything, it would be for any means that allows music to be carried into the future and allows our successors to experience it. The stage is always a unique experience. This uniqueness is the most important thing.

Are there any rituals before the show?

Everyone has rituals, both their own and shared ones. This is part of the intimate sphere and cannot be shared with anyone.

What would you say to your 18-year old self?

I would say don’t dream, but set yourself goals. Don’t expect beauty, but marvel when you encounter it. Use pain to create and monopolize your days to achieve what you set out to achieve. Fight to leave a mark and allow that mark to become an example. Don’t have role models to follow, but build your own model on yourself.

What do you do when no ones sees you?

I observe myself.

Do you have any bad habits?

Who can judge what are good or bad habits? My worst habit is observing myself and society.

What’s the strangest place you’ve ever been?

The strangest place I’ve ever been is inside myself. It’s also the most damned, unmanageable, surprising, astonishing place. From the water, I arrived at myself, repeatedly, because I too am Liquid, like the protagonist of the last book I wrote… “S-Heaven: sea of heaven.” Differently Liquid.

What drives you up the wall?

There are three things in particular that drive me crazy, the not-so-holy trinity. Art, love, and indifference.

Is there anything that fans might do that would be an absolote no-go for you? Close to the fan or would you prefer to keep to yourself?

Lacking respect… respect is the basis of any human interaction. I love being in contact with fans, up to a point. I also need long, deep moments of solitude.

How could it be possible to describe myself in this way? Describing myself presupposes an infinite journey that transcends the transience of this life.

What else would you like to tell your fans?

I would like to say, don’t put off until tomorrow what you could experience today. Because the past does not exist and the future may not exist.
