Ich bin Vollzeitmusiker und kanalisiere meine kreative Seite, um seit 2017 Musik als MATT HART zu veröffentlichen.  In meiner musikalischen Klanglandschaft erwarten dich Beats aus Industrial, Electronic/EBM und Metal – alles unter dem Titel Wastelands 3808 Man VS Machine – eine Erzählung, die auf einem Konzept des Jahres 3808 basiert, einer post-apokalyptischen Welt, in der die letzten Überlebenden der Menschheit gegen die Maschinenherrschaft kämpfen. Sowohl die Musik als auch die Ästhetik stechen auf der Bühne hervor, und die Energie, die bei einem Live-Auftritt entsteht, ist herausragend. Eine exquisite Mischung aus den alten Göttern des Industrial, den Legenden des harschen Elektro und den neuen Göttern des Dark Bass.

Wann und wie bist du zur Musik gekommen?

Das geht ziemlich weit zurück, denn ich lernte mit 6 Jahren zunächst Geige und wechselte ein paar Jahre später zur tieferen Bratsche, wobei meine Eltern mich stets unterstützten und sich für meinen Erfolg einsetzten. In meinen jüngeren Jahren spielte ich in Jugendorchestern, und auch als Erwachsener arbeite ich hauptberuflich in einem Orchester, so dass Musik schon immer ein wichtiger Bestandteil meines Lebens war. Als Teenager begann ich mich für härtere Musik wie Metal zu interessieren (eine Art Rebellion gegen meine klassische Ausbildung), und Bands wie Fear Factory und Meshuggah liefen regelmäßig in meinem Kassetten-/CD-Player. Als ich nach London zog (Anfang 2000 – ich bin eine Stunde außerhalb der Stadt aufgewachsen), lernte ich Slimelight kennen (den am längsten bestehenden Goth/Industrial/EBM-Club der Welt) und entdeckte, dass ich sowohl die harten Beats als auch den Gitarrensound liebe. Anhand der Musik, die ich schreibe, kann man leicht erkennen, wie dieser neu entdeckte, elektronisch getriebene Sound meinen Stil beeinflusst hat, und so haben meine Kontakte zu Bands wie Combichrist, Agonoize, Covenant usw. alle ihren Teil dazu beigetragen, meinen eigenen Sound zu entwickeln.

Wie entsteht ein Song? Erst die Melodie, dann der Text?

Im Allgemeinen beginne ich damit, einige Synthesizer-Sounds zu finden und sie in einem bestimmten Tempo auf einen Beat zu legen. Dann füge ich verschiedene Klangschichten hinzu, um den Mix zu vervollständigen, oft auch Gitarren, und zum Schluss kommen der Gesang und die Texte. Die Texte sind der Teil des Komponierens, den ich am wenigsten mag, aber ich weiß, dass der Track immer viel besser wird, wenn ich sie erst einmal hinzugefügt habe.

Fünf Fakten über dich

Ich liebe Eishockey und schaue bei jeder sich bietenden Gelegenheit zu. Ich spiele auch und habe mir dabei zum Glück noch nichts gebrochen! Mein Vollzeitjob ist das Musizieren. Ich habe eine Vorliebe für Brettspiele und bin vielleicht sogar besessen davon. Ich habe Till Lindermann einmal auf der Toilette des Berliner Flughafens getroffen! Mein “nicht so bekanntes” Musikvergnügen ist die Insane Clown Posse.

Was möchtest du deinen Fans noch sagen?

Unterstützen Sie die Musik. Unterstütze die dunkle Gemeinschaft. Geh zu so vielen Konzerten wie möglich und kaufe Merchandise und Musik direkt von den Künstlern (am besten bei einem Konzert oder auf Bandcamp!), wenn du kannst. Unterstützung muss auch nicht immer in Form von Geld erfolgen: folge auf sozialen Netzwerken/Bandcamp, teile Neuigkeiten/Ereignisse auf deinen sozialen Plattformen, like/kommentiere Beiträge, bewerbe Shows (auch wenn du nicht dabei bist – vielleicht wird jemand aus deiner Freundesliste darauf aufmerksam), speichere Musik im Voraus, poste Bilder von dir bei Gigs und tagge die Band, sieh dir YouTube-Videos an und like/kommentiere/teile sie, streame die Musik und füge sie zu Playlists hinzu. … außerdem kannst du Twitch herunterladen und all den großartigen DJs zuschauen, die ihre Liebe zur Dark Community teilen (du findest mich unter https://twitch.tv/matthart3808, da ich einmal pro Woche montags um 21 Uhr eine DJ-Show mache). Introduce yourself briefly

I’m a full time musician, channeling my creative side into releasing music as MATT HART since 2017.  Within my music soundscape, expect to hear beats of Industrial, Electronic/EBM, and Metal blended together – all under the of Wastelands 3808 Man VS Machine – a narrative built on a concept of the year 3808, a post-apocalyptic world where the last survivors of humanity fight against the machine overlords. Both the music and the aesthetic stand out on a stage and the energy brought to a live performance is outstanding. Blending an exquisite mix of the old gods of industrial, the legends of harsh electro and the new gods of dark bass.

When and how did you get into music?

This goes quite a time frame back as I first learnt the violin from 6 years old and then moved over to the deeper viola a few years later, my parents a driving force always supporting and championing me in achieving success in this endeavour.  Throughout my younger years, I played in youth orchestras and as an adult, my full-time day job is with an orchestra too, so music has always been a huge component of my life. During my teens I got into heavier music like metal (a bit of a rebellion against all my classical training) and bands like Fear Factory and Meshuggah featured in regular rotation in my cassette/CD player. When I moved to London (early 2000 – I grew up an hour outside of the city) I was introduced to Slimelight (the longest running goth/industrial/ebm club in the world) and discovered that I loved the hard beat sounds as well as the guitar sound. From the music I write, it’s easy to see how this newly discovered electronically driven sound influenced my style and so my exposure to bands like Combichrist, Agonoize, Covenant etc all played their part in crafting my own sound.

How is a song created? First the melody, then the lyrics?

Generally speaking, I start with finding some synth sounds and putting them to a beat at a certain tempo. Then I add layers of sounds to fill out the mix including often, guitars, then the vocals and lyrics come last. Lyrics are my least favourite part about composing, but I know that once I add them in – the track is always far better.

Five facts about you.

I love ice hockey and watch at every occasion I can, I also play and thankfully haven’t broken anything yet in doing so! My full time day job is playing music. I have a love, and possible obsession with, board games. I once met Till Lindermann in the toilet at Berlin airport! My “not so known” music pleasure is the Insane Clown Posse.

What else would you like to say to your fans?

Support music. Support the dark community. Go to as many shows and buy merchandise and music directly from the artists (at a show or on Bandcamp best!), if you can. Support doesn’t always have to come in a monetary value either: follow on socials/Bandcamp, share news/events on your social platforms, like/comment on posts, promote shows (even if you’re not attending – maybe someone from your friends list will pick up on it), pre-save music, post pics of you at gigs tagging the band, watch YouTube video and like/comment/share, stream the music and add to playlists…. also, download Twitch and watch/hangout with all the awesome DJs sharing their love for the dark community (find me https://twitch.tv/matthart3808 as I also do a DJ show once a week Monday’s 9pm UK).
